River Pond Campground

River Pond Campground sits along the South Fork Payette River in Garden Valley, Idaho, operated privately and accessible by car, boat, foot, or trail. The layout divides into two distinct zones: RV sites arranged in a U-shape just inside the entrance, and tent sites set back among the trees. Middle Fork campground sits roughly a quarter mile northeast, giving campers a sense of how concentrated the options are along this stretch of river.

Water access is a consistent draw. Site 10 sits directly on the river, and the shallower sections have drawn families with kids. Reviewers who visited in summer note that shade disappears between roughly 11am and 5:30pm on some sites, and mosquitoes can be heavy near the water. Full hookups are available for RVs, including electric, water, and sewer, along with WiFi and a community potable hose for filling tanks on arrival. Campfires are permitted, and pets are welcome.

One recurring detail worth knowing before you book: the Starlight Mountain Theatre operates nearby, and its performances carry across the campground at night. J S. notes, "you can hear the theater nearby at night." Whether that's a feature or a distraction depends on the camper. Weekend nights have also drawn louder groups to the tent sites, so those prioritizing a quieter stay may want to plan accordingly. Reservations are available, and the nightly rate runs $35 for hookup sites. Campers curious about sites near Crouch will find this one among the few in the area with full hookups.

Not what I thought…

Website photos don’t match the actual property. The main RV sites are just inside the entrance, close together in a U shape. Electric was fine and there is a community potable hose to fill up upon arrival. Behind there are a bunch of tent sites in the trees which were occupied by drunk partygoers all weekend. Needless to say quiet time wasn’t a thing. No bugs and temperatures were in the 80s so pleasant. The owner was nice to chat with… Was it worth 35/night, plus extra for cars to come visit during the day? Hmmmmm There are only so many campgrounds with hookups in the area so they have the market cornered.

Also, you can hear the theater nearby at night - that was fun!

Cool place for families

Great place for families. The river was shallow enough for kids. Good place to practice gold panning if you are into that. Walking down to the river from T2 was somewhat of a long walk. The outhouses were not clean and a far walk as well. no shade from 11am to 5:30pm.

Wild and wet

This camping site offered a plethora of activities. There was plenty of shade as the sun was beating down. Then we cooled off in the river during the afternoon. At night there was a shrek play which was very unexpected. Overall great experience.

Nice older gentleman runs the place. Beautiful spot but while starlight mountain theatre is running you hear the play..that can be positive or negative depending on your plans. I enjoy it. Lots of mosquitoes by the river small amount of traffic noise. Amazingly beautiful location!
