Lava Campground

Highway traffic hums in the background at this drive-in campground positioned directly off the main road leading into Lava Hot Springs. The proximity to the highway provides easy access but comes with consistent road noise throughout the day and evening hours.

Sites feature fire rings, picnic tables, and patches of grass, with fairly level ground that accommodates most RV setups. Young trees dot the property, though they currently provide minimal shade coverage during summer months. The bathroom and shower facilities draw consistent praise from visitors for their cleanliness and spacious layout. A playground occupies part of the grounds, giving families with children room to play and explore.

"We came for one night and stayed for two nights, so much to explore," notes one recent visitor. The campground sits less than a mile from downtown, making it a convenient base for accessing the area's hot springs. Walking paths connect the property to nearby Lava Hot Springs KOA East, creating pedestrian routes toward town. Several sites were under development during recent visits, indicating ongoing expansion of the facility.

This campground works well for travelers prioritizing proximity to Lava Hot Springs' attractions over quiet, secluded camping, particularly families who value clean facilities and easy town access.

Campers regularly cited the spacious, level sites and exceptionally clean facilities. Some visitors noted manageable highway noise, but most found the convenient location worth it. Close proximity to town and hot springs adds appeal.

Such a great park!

It’s a bit further outside of downtown, but easily walkable through the paths and KOA. It’s affordable, spacious and clean. They have a lot of spots and several not spots were being developed when we were there. It was quiet at night and a great little escape!

Great Campground

We enjoyed our experience at Lava Campground. We liked how close it was to the town of Lava Hot Springs. We also liked the playground for our kids and using the showers.

Good spot

This campground is right off the highway so there is some noise but not bad. Well run campground with clean bathrooms and showers. Fun playground for kids and lots of room to run around. Right down the road of town and the hot springs.

So clean!

The place is big and the locals certainly come here. Each site has a picnic table, a fire ring and some grass. They’re fairly level. The bathroom and the showers are huge and very clean. Small trees at each site now so until they get big, there won’t be much shade in the summer. Very close to the town for the soaks. It’s very close to the highway which is a plus, but there can also be some traffic noise. Beautiful views.
