Within Sawtooth National Forest, Bowns Campground provides a quieter alternative to busier destinations during peak season. This US Forest Service facility sits along Big Smoky Creek on the old road just past Smoky Bar, accessible by vehicle with additional hike-in and walk-in options available.
The campground maintains open terrain near the creek and operates from May through November. Sites accommodate various RV sizes, with drinking water and restrooms available on-site. Pets are not permitted. One recent visitor noted the facility remained uncrowded during Memorial Day weekend while nearby camping near Atlanta was at capacity. The location allows alcohol and provides space for both trailers and motorhomes in adjacent sites.
