Overview

A stay at Dutch Creek Cabin allows guests to enjoy all the beauty and recreation offered around the Middle Fork Boise River. The cabin is open from mid-May through late September and is easily accessible by car in good weather, although the road is sometimes rough. Guests have access to many conveniences and only need to bring a minimal amount of gear and supplies to make their stay comfortable and enjoyable.

Natural Features:

Dutch Creek Cabin is situated in an open meadow surrounded by mature Ponderosa pines at an elevation of 4,800 feet. The cabin overlooks the picturesque Middle Fork Boise River near where it converges with Dutch Creek, Swanholm Creek and Phifer Creek.

Wildlife watchers may want to look for deer and elk. Bears are occasional visitors to the area as well. Waterfowl, eagles and osprey are attracted to the river.

Recreation:

Trail #047 begins nearby, leading to the scenic Hot Creek and Lake areas. This multi-use trail is open to hikers, equestrians, mountain bikers andoff-road vehicles. Click here) for an Idaho OHV safety message.

The Middle Fork Boise River offers excellent trout fishing and good swimming holes. Big game hunting is a popular activity in season. A hot springs is located on the Middle Fork Boise River off Forest Road #268 about 3 miles west of cabin.

Facilities:

The cabin is small and accommodates four people with a double bed and a set of bunkbeds with mattresses. The kitchen has a sink with hot water, propane cook stove, refrigerator and a table with chairs. Cookware, dishes and utensils are also provided. The indoor bathroom features a flush toilet, sink and shower. The cabin is heated with propane. Garbage service is provided.

A picnic area, campfire ring and pedestal grill are located outside the cabin. Firewood can be gathered around the area.

No electricity is available. Bedding, towels, lighting and emergency supplies are not provided.

Directions

This cabin is approximately 46 miles east of Idaho City, Idaho. From Idaho City, take Highway 21 for 18 miles to Crooked River-Little Owl Road #384. Turn right and stay on Road #384 for 13.5 miles to North Fork Boise River Road #327. Turn left and stay on Road #327 for 13 miles to Middle Fork Boise River Road #268. Turn right on Road #268 and drive one mile to Dutch Creek; it is the single cabin on the left. Road #268 is generally in good, but is in somewhat rough, condition. It can be traveled in good weather by 2-wheel passenger cars or trucks.<br /><br /> An alternative route is to drive up Middle Fork Boise River Road #268 at High Bridge on Highway 21 and follow this road for 52 miles to the cabin. This road is usually best in spring/early summer, after which road conditions get dusty and rough.
