Bobcat Gulch

Managed by the Idaho Department of Fish and Game, Bobcat Gulch sits within the Bobcat Gulch Access Site along the Salmon River, operating as a free, dispersed campground with roughly nine unnumbered sites marked by fire rings. No water or electrical hookups are available. Sites are dry camping only, though a large ADA-accessible pit toilet is on-site and, according to recent visitors, kept clean.

Most sites back up directly to the river, which gives the area a distinct character. Anglers and those traveling with rigs will find the layout accommodating: one camper reported towing a 30-foot toy hauler with no difficulty getting in and out. The campground does sit close to the highway, and road noise is noticeable, particularly from passing vehicles. Elk have been spotted on the ridge above the site.

Crowd patterns vary. The campground fills on busy weekends, and at least one visitor arrived to find it completely full with trucks, trailers, and camper vans. Midweek stays tend to be less crowded. No trash service is provided, so campers should plan to pack out. Cell service is listed as available. Pets are welcome.

"Most sites back up to the river which is pretty nice," notes Evan H., who also flagged the highway proximity as the main trade-off. Nearby options for those who miss a spot include Wagonhammer RV Park & Campground to the north or Red Rock Access a short distance southeast. Campers planning a longer route can browse places to camp near North Fork for additional stops along the way.
