Situated at the bottom of a canyon along the Salmon River, Camp Creek BLM Camping draws anglers, stargazers, and van campers looking for a no-cost overnight on BLM land south of places to camp near Salmon. The layout is simple: roughly three sites spaced apart from one another, each within a one-minute walk of the river. No bathrooms. No potable water. Bring your own or plan to filter from the river.
The sites sit close enough to US-93 that passing vehicles are audible, though reviewers note the road stays relatively quiet. Verizon users should expect little to no cell signal. Trees provide shade and enough anchor points for hammocks, and the canyon walls frame open sightlines toward the surrounding mountains. The river is accessible for swimming and fishing directly from camp, and the canyon view overhead makes for solid stargazing after dark.
"No faucet for potable water, bring your own or filter from the river," notes Kristy A., who also found the sites moderately clean and private during her stay. Crowd levels tend to stay low, with most visitors reporting only one or two other parties at most. Nearby, BLM Dispersed near Goldbug Hot Springs — Salmon River and Waddington Creek Primitive Campsite offer additional free options along the same corridor. Level ground can be limited at the riverside spot, so arriving with leveling blocks is a practical precaution.
