King's Pond, located near Harmony Church, is the only area on the installation where primitive camping is permitted free of charge. Reservations are not required, except when MWR events are scheduled.

MILITARY & GUESTS ONLY You'll find charcoal grills, fire pits, a playground, restrooms, primitive camping sites, 3 fishing piers and a boat launch onsite. The pond is a favorite fishing spot, with plenty of bass, bluegill, catfish, crappie and sunfish. No combustion-type motors are permitted, except to unload and trailer your boat.

Watch for bald eagles, great blue herons, red-cockaded woodpeckers, cormorants, gators, turtles, geese, and more. This park is the site of one of our most popular activities — the King's Pond Campout — scheduled regularly during warm weather. The events often include music, games, boating and stories around the campfire. There is a pavilion with picnic seating for up to 32 people. A large charcoal grill, a playground and restrooms are located nearby.

Come pitch your tent just outside of our animal pasture with zebu cows, sheep, 5 baby goats and adults and lots of chickens. We have several sites to choose from. We are a working homestead. We are a campground in-process of being built over 100 acres, however 80 acres were just cleared but still have 10-15 acres that are wooded and ready for camping with fire pits, picnic tables and access to visit the farm animals during hours of 10am-4pm. Animal snack paks will be given to each guest at check in.

Escape to a private campsite in rural Alabama. The property is surrounded by forest and wildlife. There are several places to hang a hammock and plenty of room for outdoor games like cornhole. Enjoy making smores by the campfire and gazing at the stars.

The city of Columbus is about 25 minutes away and offers white water rafting, zip lining, axe throwing, a river-walk, and other activities. There are plenty of lakes and rivers to go fishing. Auburn is about 40 mins away.

The site offers an outhouse, fire pit, fire pit grill rack for cooking, platform (which can be used for small/medium tents) and a hiking trail that is about 1/3 of a mile.

Please note, the site has a road but during heavy rain the road can accumulate mud. Suggest 4-wheel drive vehicles for rainy conditions. Otherwise, cars are able to access campsite and park at site. Hipcampers can also park at the front of the property and walk about .25 miles to site if unable to drive. Please message me beforehand if you are worried about driving conditions.

The property is surrounded by hunting land so please be mindful of property lines and do you best to stay on the trail. Also, expect gunshots in the distance every once in a while.

Property also has natural wildlife like coyotes, snakes, spiders, ants, etc.. Alabama can also get very hot during June, July, August. Please prepare accordingly.

My wife and I bought this property in 2021 with the goal of turning this land into a homestead. She is currently in the army. My mom and stepfather live at the front of the property and will be able to help accommodate you if needed. Meeting at the front of the property is not needed.

Roughing it at its finest. Down dirt roads and through thousands of acres of a wildlife management hunting preserve, these primitive campsites are available for tents and RVs on a first-come, first-served basis. An ideal location for hiking the backwoods. A quintessential night under the stars and a cozy campfire makes this a nature lover’s paradise.

          Busy Campground

Good lake access/sunset views/boat ramp. Tends to be quite a busy campground, so getting a prime spot in peak season can be difficult. Management noted to be on the stricter side.

          Excellent place to stay

We stayed in site 185. While it was one of the more expensive sites in the park it was well worth it. The nice lady that answered the phone made the recommendation when I told her I’d like somewhere for my kids to run. They’re 5 and 3. We ended up spending more time sitting and watching them just play in the grass than we really thought.

The restrooms near 185 were large and very clean. They were up to date and comfortable to shower in, etc. campground was the cleanest we’d ever been to and extremely easy to navigate.

We were in town for Callaway Gardens pumpkin event. We will definitely stay here again. Couldn’t have been happier honestly.

          Gorgeous spot to stay

Great communication with staff. Location is right off the highway but the camp grounds are deep in the state park so it’s so quiet and beautiful. The marina is home too so many boats and fishermen but that’s about 3 miles from the camp spot. Love it!

          Pretty state campground

We had some flubs with this campground. We put the wrong address in our GPS resulting in us arriving too late to use the pool. Then we neglected to pick up our paperwork and had to drive back to the main building to get it and we drove past the campground host on duty so we didn’t get firewood. Our campsite was pretty: flat, spacious, shaded with trees, but it was frustrating to drive past the even prettier spots right on the lake and realize that’s what I should have booked!! Several people were out enjoying evening fishing as we drove past to our more woodsy loop.

We were here all of 12 hours - it was a nice stopover on our route further south. Really quiet and absolutely spotless bathhouse! I really was bummed about not getting to the pool (it was not open the next day) - we will come back!

          Nice site, well maintained

I am getting back into camping for the first time in a very long time. Went to FDR State Park because it’s only about 30 minutes from home. Booking site 111 was easily done online. I arrived after the office had closed but my reservation sheet with instructions was left in a box on the door for me to pick up. Great park with nice lake for fishing, kayaking, paddle boating as well many hiking trails. Bathrooms were clean and well maintained. Visited Dowdell’s Knob which gives a fantastic view…no wonder it was FDR’s favorite picnicking site when visiting Warm Springs. I would definitely recommend and will be back, but next time will be spring or fall because summer was just too hot.

          Beautiful and Clean Campground

Stayed in the 500 series camping area prior to Memorial Day Weekend for two nights. The staff at check in were extremely friendly and helpful. All camping/RV spots in 500 series were well spaced, the ones nearest the lake seem a little more congested. Easy to navigate with my Solis, but a large Class A or trailer would be challenging. The bathroom/shower facilities were some of the cleanest, well kept I’ve ever seen. Hiked to Cascade Falls with my wife and our two dogs (2 miles in/2 miles out). Will definitely go back.

As long as we been coming has it been this bad. Grass is over ankles. Roads has holes everywhere. Bathhouse needs so much updates. Shower stall are not clean very well.  We asked if someone could come and dig little trench so water could run off. Hasn’t seen anyone yet. Very disappointed with this vacation here this time

Great Camping & Lots to Do

Our second stay here. First was in the spring of 2020 when COVID had everything shutdown. Spent Monday through Friday and enjoyed our stay with some friends. Lots of old 1800 to early 1900’s homes to see, some offer tours. Providence Canyon and the Kolomoki Mounds State Parks in Georgia are an easy drive and worth the trip. Sites are easy to navigate, utilities are in good shape, and enough Verizon signal to stay in touch.

Beautiful sunset by the water 🌅

Park was easy to get to. We were on site 1, a back in site. Sites were kinda close together, we heard a little more of our neighbors than we would have liked to. Campground was dog friendly and many were around. Bathrooms and laundry facilities were roomy and clean. The grill and fire pit were in good shape. We didn’t see a store for firewood and charcoal, so bring your own if you’ll need it. Although we didn’t use it, the grounds had a putt putt course that was available for guest use. The camp hosts were very kind.

          First impressions

Just arrived mid Sunday afternoon. Booked a site 4 months ago to find we have been allocated a different site. Reception closed and the promised man to greet us wasn’t expecting us, therefore we have no info about the park. There is no cable tv as your site says and we have yet to be able to join the wifi! No park plan. Not impressed - at the cost of our site per night, we expected a lot better.

We spend three months a year on the road and are experienced travellers.

          Hoping things improve!

          Great Overnight Stay

In order to get in the campground, you have to have a code texted to you, no other way in! We had a pull through spot (I). The spot was slightly unlevel on the right side.Although there was loud interstate noise, it was still peaceful with the babbling creek in front of our site. There was a shower room, restrooms, laundry facilities available and all were clean. A huge beautiful pool and a children's pool, all were kept up nicely.

          Bring your fishing pole

Large sites with tall trees and plenty of shade. Easy check in with a friendly park ranger and also met the camp host who was also very nice. There is a big lake for boating and fishing and you can rent a small boat on site. The bathrooms and laundry room were clean but hot and muggy with just a couple of fans running. Not much else going on at this park. Down the road however is Providence Canyon SP and that is an absolute must if you are staying here. Providence Canyon has some great hiking and amazing views.
