McKinney Campground

Within the Allatoona Recreation Area, McKinney Campground spreads across 150 sites along the shores of Lake Allatoona. Managed by the Army Corps of Engineers, this established campground operates year-round with fees ranging from $24-$28 per night depending on proximity to the water. Sites accommodate RVs up to 60 feet, though most require backing in, and all include 50-amp electric and water hookups.

The campground's layout places many sites directly on the waterfront or with clear lake views. Campers consistently note the generous spacing between sites and the ease of lake access for fishing and swimming. Two sand beaches provide designated swimming areas, while a boat dock and ramp serve paddlers and anglers. Seven shower buildings distribute facilities throughout the large campground, though some reviewers mention longer walks from certain sites to restrooms.

Site conditions vary significantly across the campground. Several campers report steep, slanted sites that create challenges for RV leveling, particularly for larger rigs. Joy W. notes that "the dump site gets really busy" and suggests the campground "could really use 2 trash/dump sites." Train noise carries during daytime hours, with some interstate sounds at night.

The campground stays consistently full during peak seasons, making reservations advisable through the Corps of Engineers system. For additional options, see places to camp near Emerson. McKinney works well for RV campers seeking lake access and full hookups within driving distance of metro Atlanta.

Great spot at the water

Our last two nights we stayed at the McKinney Campground in Atlanta , it was perfect for the travel back to Atlanta to deliver back the rental Van on our last day.

We got there early afternoon from Nashville and weather was great and warm. Since we had both chill and snow over the smoky mountains and lots of rain in Nashville ,we loved this place.

We had a spot right out to the water , it was big enough for us and we could see and say hello to those around us,but did not feel tight at all.

We had electrical and water hookup

The bathhouse it was two toilets and shower ,they were big ,but had to time it when going into it otherwise wait to get in there.

We enjoyed the BBQ grill and the fire pit and the view of the water ,The girls swum in the lake

Beautiful sites on Alltoona Lake

We love our site on the water, #98. It’s a pull through site with a nice deck. Pretty busy campground (especially during spring break🤣). Great water views and easy step down to the waters edge for fishing.

In our area, the bathroom/shower combo is adequate but needs an update. The shower water must be really warm as the bathroom was like a steam room when I opened the door.

Only downsides for us was the distance to the trash dumpsters, and the dump site gets really busy. They could really use 2 trash/dump sites as this is a large campground and it stays full.

Almost Perfect

Woods, water-front, space, everything you could want in a camp sight.

You can hear the train during the day, and a touch of the interstate at night, but the serenity is absolutely impeccable. This place is absolutely hard to beat. Clean bathrooms, electricity (at our spot [93]), firewood, sand ample space between camp sites, make this place a gem. Will absolutely visit again.

Ok for a quick get away

The US Army Corp of Engineers manages McKinney Campground on Lake Allatoona near Acworth. It’s close to home, so it’s a quick trip. There are 150 tent/RV sites. Fees range from $24 - $28 per night. Some are waterfront sites and have higher rates. The sites range from 21 ft. To 60 ft., most are back-in sites, with 50 amp electric and water hookups. We were in site 136, which was pretty good size. There are 2 sand beach swimming beaches. The Campground also has showers/bathroom facilities (I counted 7 shower buildings) and a coin laundry facility. There is a a dump station available. Wildlife sightings are frequent & and there is a dock & boat ramp. Reservations can be made through the Corp of Engineers-877-444-6777. But some sites are first-come, first-served campsites that cannot be reserved. One down side is they have a limit of 2 pets per site.

Lake front sites!!

If you want lake front, they got it! Almost all sites either have a view of the lake or are right on lake Allatoona! We tent camped here on site 45 in October 2017. Evening sunsets were beautiful from our site but the walk to the restrooms was a long one. We will get a little closer next time! We rented kayaks from a local company, Murphy's,  and enjoyed time out on the lake every day! Our grandsons had a great time swimming at the beach area...yes, in Georgia you can swim in October! We will be back!!

Nice but difficult

Nice campgrpund and really enjoyed that we were on the water.

However, many of the sites are very steep and slanted and causes difficulty getting your trailer or RV into the site. Makes leveling very difficult
