Vero Beach Equestrian Club offers 9 RV sites with 30-amp electric hookups and water connections specifically designed for horse owners. The campground provides direct access to equestrian trails and accommodates horse trailers with spacious parking areas. Sites are fully reservable and maintain a 5-star rating from visitors who appreciate the well-maintained grounds and equine-friendly atmosphere. The facility includes dedicated areas for horses with proper waste management systems and ample space between sites for privacy and comfort.
Located approximately 45 miles southeast of Patrick AFB, the equestrian club serves as a convenient base for exploring nearby riding trails. Westgate River Ranch Resort & Rodeo, situated about 60 miles northwest of Patrick AFB, provides additional horse camping options with full hookup RV sites, tent camping areas, cabins, and glamping accommodations. The resort features extensive horse facilities including stables, riding areas, and trail access. Weekend rodeo events showcase horsemanship skills while the property maintains boat access points for those wishing to combine equestrian activities with water recreation. The trails surrounding both facilities remain accessible year-round, though Florida's summer heat and afternoon thunderstorms may affect riding schedules during warmer months.

I live within a hours drive from this park and have been camping here for 40 plus years. This State Park is Old Florida, sites are secluded from the other sites compared to many other parks. There is a abundance of wildlife and plenty of hiking trails. This park to me is one of the best you will experience in Florida.
We decided to book a group primitive campsite in this state park. We were in the primitive group campsite on the Buster Island Loop. It was about 3 miles to hike in to the site. The path is very clear with markers and when you arrive at the site, there is a clear indicator to follow. The path to the site is right off the main trail.
Since this is a primitive site, there are no facilities and keep in mind you need to bring your own water for drinking, cooking, cleaning etc. At the site there were two picnic tables and a fire ring which was enough for our group. The area was cleared with a lot of space to set up all of our tents. We were here in late April when the weather was getting warmer so remember to bring mosquito repellent and enough water for your whole group to stay hydrated!
The hiking trails are loops about 6 miles long where you can experience different types of Florida environments and boating on the lake. And there are also history demonstrations showing the old Florida cowboys at the park.
All in all, this park has many options and activities. Whether you are into water sports or biking and hiking, this park has it all.

River Ranch RV next door is a beautiful place with fantastic spots. We stayed in spot 323 which had its own swing and fireplace. Our 37 ft rig fit perfectly and five year old loved riding bike around the park. Everyone was super friendly and I recommend renting a golf cart, though expensive at $60 a day,
Be aware of telephone phone reception. At our spot we could not get any reception with ATT. After buying a Verizon hotspot down the road in Lake Wales, we were able to WFH.a
Would highly recommend this spot in Central Florida.
First time at Lake Kissimmee State Park! We loved it. We arrived just before sun down. First of all the drive into the park is beautiful. Classic Florida landscape and made us so excited to start camping. We were in loop 1 site 13. The sites are pretty private we couldn’t see the campers to the sides of us and they are very large. Bathrooms were very clean. Best part was all the wildlife we encountered. In the morning a family of deer walked right by our tent! There are three main hiking trails up to 6.7 miles. We did the 6 mile loop and it was beautiful and peaceful. Primitive hike in campsites available along the trails which we will be checking out for next time. Reservation was easily made through reservation America.
This lovely state park in Central Florida gives campers the true feel of "old Florida!" Campsites are private, separated by lots of flora. Animals are abundant - wild turkeys, eagles, bobcats, AND the Florida Panther!
While sitting in our screen gazebo, I was awed by the passing of a male panther about 25 yards from our campsite. Wild turkeys visited us daily to hang out by a fallen tree near our site. Deer passed by every evening.
If you are seeking peace, quiet and beauty this is the place!
This park was clean, quiet and well kept. The bath house was tidy and the hot water was HOT. There are numerous trails, an observation tower, playground, boat ramp and fishing area. A replica 1870s Florida cow camp is also located on one of the trails. The sites are level and nearly all are shaded. The electric and water were good and the dump station had a hose to help with wash out. There is a small camp store with a few necessities but if you forget something there is a Dollar General about 20 minutes away.
Hidden gem in Florida. Now one of our favorite campgrounds. Spacious sites with lovely trees and greenery. Good privacy between sites. Miles of beautiful and varied hiking trails right from the campground - some shady and forested, others through prairies or along lakes. Good kayaking on the canal and lake but my husband must have been wearing the wrong pants cause he didn’t catch any fish - lol. Wifi connection available at /around the concession stand. Another great aspect was that we met many wonderful people - fellow campers just enjoying the peace, nature and community that Lake Kissimmee has to offer. We will definitely return!
Good off-roading nearby ! All the amenities you want. Nice staff
Lake Kissimmee State Park provides access to more than 13 miles of equestrian trails through pine flatwoods and oak hammocks, located about 60 miles west of Patrick AFB. The park maintains crushed shell camping pads with 30-amp hookups for recreational vehicles and dedicated areas for horses. Water recreation options supplement riding opportunities with fishing access and boat launches on the 35,000-acre lake.
Wildlife observation tower climbing: Lake Kissimmee State Park features an observation tower where visitors can spot local wildlife. "We enjoyed the common areas, the observation deck and the hiking. Staff and hosts were wonderful," notes Perry J. in his Lake Kissimmee State Park Campground review.
Equestrian trail riding: Multiple marked trails connect through the natural Florida landscape. "Beautiful shaded sites and long biking/trails," reports Alexandra E. about Lake Kissimmee State Park. The trails wind through pine forests and across open prairie sections.
Weekend rodeo events: Westgate River Ranch hosts regular rodeo performances showcasing traditional cowboy skills. "We really enjoyed the rodeo," states Susan K. in her review of Westgate River Ranch Resort & Rodeo, adding that the resort offers "lots of entertainment for all ages."
Privacy between campsites: The spacing and natural vegetation create secluded camping areas. "Campsites are far enough apart for privacy with lots of shades trees. Each site has a firepit," mentions Stephanie G. about her tent camping experience at Lake Kissimmee State Park.
Clean facilities: State park restrooms and common areas receive consistent maintenance. "Extremely clean restrooms, great washing machine and dryer, clean place to wash dishes! wow!" Lauren W. enthusiastically reports about her stay at Lake Kissimmee State Park Campground.
Wildlife encounters: The natural setting attracts diverse animal species that frequent the camping areas. "Wild turkeys visited us daily to hang out by a fallen tree near our site. Deer passed by every evening," Barbara J. shares in her Lake Kissimmee review, noting she even spotted a Florida panther about 25 yards from her campsite.
Limited cell service: Coverage can be non-existent in some camping areas. "Cell service is practically non existent in the park and within 10 miles from the park. Keep an eye on gas, there's one place about 6 miles from the park and town is about 15 miles away," warns Corey K. in his Lake Kissimmee State Park Campground review.
Activity costs: Many resort amenities require additional fees beyond camping rates. "Most activities are at a cost," Ilena R. mentions regarding Westgate River Ranch Resort, though she adds that "the air boat ride was a fun experience."
Transportation within larger properties: Bringing personal transport helps navigate extensive facilities. "You need a golf cart or bikes to get around," advises Vikki L. about Westgate River Ranch Resort, while another visitor recommends "renting a golf cart, though expensive at $60 a day."
Seasonal program availability: Some educational programs operate on limited schedules. "Cow camp is only open Oct-May," notes Corey K. regarding Lake Kissimmee State Park's historical demonstration area.
Kid-friendly activities: Multiple options exist for entertaining younger campers. "We went to the rodeo on Saturday night, did a swamp buggy ride, skeet shooting, petting zoo and rode a mechanical bull... and there was still more we could have done," explains Tina S. about her stay at Westgate River Ranch Resort & Rodeo.
Budget considerations: Plan for activity expenses beyond campsite fees. "The only down fall is the prices are a little expensive, other than that lots of fun," Jennifer K. mentions regarding Westgate River Ranch, which offers numerous attractions at additional cost.
Site-specific amenities: Individual camping spots may offer unique features. "We stayed in spot 323 which had its own swing and fireplace. Our 37 ft rig fit perfectly," reports Andoni G. about his experience at River Ranch RV Resort, which adjoins Westgate property.
Low hanging branches: Watch for tree limbs when positioning larger vehicles. "Be careful of low hanging tree branches when backing in," warns Denise about Lake Kissimmee State Park, adding that most spots are "fully shaded with trees" which could pose challenges for taller RVs.
Dump station availability: Not all horse campgrounds offer full hookups. "Only 30amp hook up and no sewer, but there is a dump station," reports Corey K. about Lake Kissimmee State Park's facilities, noting that "the spots are pretty level and the pads are crushed shells."
