Westgate River Ranch Resort & Rodeo

      Hit and Miss

Lots of amenities with plenty to do, water park was nice, ice cream shop, marina, and skeet range were cool. Staff was inconsistent - some allowed the kids to have fun but others break out the measuring stick to deny activities. Head scratching at times but will probably go back.

Great If You Love The Outdoors

This site is very neat. You'll have to drive about 5 miles on an unpaved road to get to the sites. 30A hookup and water. I visited during the week in August and it was pretty empty. Nice and quiet. Lots of trails and wildlife.

kissimmee prarie preserve state park florida

Well off the beaten path & worth the drive

Campground in & amongst trees & scrub brush. Easy RV back-in parking. Also, tent sites. Clean laundry & bathroom facilities, including hot showers. Dump station & potable water available. Ranger led walks & swamp buggy rides. Awesome isolation, so hit the grocery before you camp here. Dark zone is great for telescopes. The road in is a little bit washboard, so just slow down & allow extra time. 2 week maximum stay. Rangers helpful & friendly.

Kilpatrick Hammock Campground — Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park

Peaceful w/ great views but no cell service

I only spent one night there, but it’s a small and peaceful campground with shaded spots. I lucked out with a good view of the nearby prairie, and woke up to a beautiful sunset with tall grasses and bird song. The listing says excellent coverage for T-Mobile but my phone alternated between one bar and no service at all.

      Lake Kissimmee State Park Campground

      Beautiful campground

Spent five nights at this beautiful campground. It is absolutely so peaceful. Tons of deer all over, all the time. The campground is definitely nice and pitch black at night. We walked over to the observation tower and could see the cow camp from there. We rode our bikes to the cow camp and snooped around. That was really interesting. Our site was really nice and big. All the palms around the site give it some privacy. Most of the trails are still flooded. Our rainy season just ended and we’ve had a lot of rain towards the end of it.

Laundry is $1.25 per load. Bathhouse was clean each time we used it. Park rangers were friendly each time we saw them.

      Laid back camping

Nice spot to just get away and relax. Lots of hiking trails and some wildlife. Deers all around even among the campsites. Some tours available close by for airboats. We will be back here again.

Kilpatrick Hammock Campground — Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park

      Beautiful

4 miles down washboard sand/gravel road will beat your truck and trailer to death. And the sites are small!! 18’ trailer in site #6 and had to unhitch the tow vehicle as it was sticking in the road. Barely fit 22’ trailer and tow vehicle in site #1 without unhitching. That aside, it is a beautiful quiet spot that is excellent for star gazing. Bath house is clean and lots of hot water. If you are car camping or tent camping or have a camper van, this might be a good spot for you. It is a dark zone, so no lights after dark - use red lights.

    Guide to Indialantic

Equestrian camping options near Indialantic, Florida span across central Florida's prairie landscapes and ranch country. Most facilities are located within a 60-90 minute drive from the coast, offering access to both wilderness trails and managed riding areas. Winter months (November-March) provide optimal riding conditions with temperatures averaging 65-75°F and lower humidity than summer months.

    What to do

Stargazing at designated dark sky sites: Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park offers exceptional night sky viewing as Florida's only certified dark sky park. "Astronomers love this park. In fact, they have a designated campground just for them. Be sure to ONLY use flashlights with red lense so that you do not disrupt the star gazers," notes camper Annell N.

Wildlife viewing from horseback trails: Multiple trails showcase native Florida species in their natural habitat. "The animals just weren't afraid of humans. Our 6 teenagers were so excited to stand face-to-face, only a few feet from gentle deer, bunnies, and turkeys. We even saw some lazy baby alligators sunning on the Military Trail," shares Roxxy G. at Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park.

Weekend rodeo entertainment: Saturday night rodeos provide authentic western experiences for families. "The boys loved the rodeo that was held on the weekend. They even got to participate in chasing the calf to win a prize," reports Christy C. who visited Westgate River Ranch Resort & Rodeo.

    What campers like

Private, spacious sites: The camping areas prioritize space between neighbors. "Campsites are far enough apart for privacy with lots of shades trees. Each site has a firepit," says Stephanie G. about Lake Kissimmee State Park Campground.

Clean facilities despite remote locations: The maintenance of bathhouses stands out to visitors. "Bathrooms are spacious. Showers are hot," confirms Roxxy G. Another camper, Richard P., adds, "Clean bathrooms. Hot showers."

Wildlife encounters around campsites: Animals frequently visit camping areas. "Wild turkeys visited us daily to hang out by a fallen tree near our site. Deer passed by every evening," shares Barbara J. about Lake Kissimmee State Park Campground.

    What you should know

Remote locations require planning: Most equestrian campgrounds sit far from services. "Expect a long travel to this remote site. It's a couple miles of reasonably decent dirt roads to get there, after several miles of remote highways," explains David G. Similarly, Monte W. advises, "Definitely bring everything that you need because there is nothing around for many miles."

Cell service limitations: Connectivity varies significantly. "Cell service is practically non existent in the park and within 10 miles from the park. Keep an eye on gas, there's one place about 6 miles from the park and town is about 15 miles away," reports Corey K.

Road conditions vary seasonally: Access roads to many equestrian sites require attention. "Washboard road for miles to get to the hammock, and it was in bad shape," notes Lauren W. about her experience at Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park.

    Tips for camping with families

Activity planning for multiple age groups: Horse-friendly campgrounds offer diverse entertainment options. "We went on an airboat ride. It was great. We really enjoyed the rodeo," says Susan K. about her family's stay at Westgate River Ranch Resort & Rodeo.
