Natural gem

We stayed in site 26, which was tucked back and fairly private. We planned on trail riding, but rain changed the plans. We didn’t get to explore much, but will be back. Nice long drive down to the sites. Electric and water were both great, and dump stations easy. Staff was extra friendly.

Beautiful

Very quiet and spacious. Wildlife in abundance. We were a 45’ motorcoach with a 20’ tow behind. Stayed in spot 3. Will return soon.

Very Nice Campground

This campground is obviously quite new.  Spacious and open sites that are very big rig friendly.  Pads are L-shaped to accommodate the picnic table, yet because of the spacioiusness there's room to pitch a screen tent in the grass.

The demerits for us were (1) laundry is coin op only (no credit card), surprising for such a new park; and (2) no plastic bag dispenseries for dog clean up.  Such amenities are nice for extended stays.

Mediocre at best

So I will say this site has super clean bathrooms, nice tent campsites and freshly paved roads. The tent sites have hookups and very close to the bathrooms. The only downfall is there isn't a ton to do here so don't expect anything spectacular.

Love this park!!!

I absolutely love this park! There are so many trails and places to ride our bikes. It was really nice just relaxing on the dock to watch the birds in the lake. Bathhouse was always clean. Our site was really nice. We had a really long driveway. Campers around us were very friendly. I would absolutely go back! We loved riding down to see the horses.

Serene Ease

What a lovely campground!

Everything is quiet and even though the sites are close to each other, there's lots of privacy (at least among the tent sites).

There appears to be a lot of people actives on water and on foot.

Staff has been very friendly.

Colt Creek Lakeland Fl

Well we didn't like the tent and RV sites. They're in an open area on gravel with no shade and hardly no divisions. There are other areas for special groups that are much nicer. But for individual campers. The equestrian area was the nicest to us. But you must have a horse to stay there.

Colt creek was a great trip. There’s plenty of room between neighbors and it was very quiet. The pads are gravel. The park is very well maintained and clean. I did not have cell signal while I was there.

Our kind of campground!

We stayed for one night on the way back from South Florida but will definitely be back! This campground is neat, clean and well maintained. Plenty of space between sites. The only drawback is lack of shade but that's not a deal breaker by any means. Great trails to bike or hike and a lake to Kayak or canoe gives you plenty to do.

Love this place

This is one of the nicest campgrounds central Florida has to offer. Clean, well maintained, and friendly staff. They have daily activities at the rangers hut and go out of the way to keep the park on top shape. If you are one of the daring campers that camps in FL in the summer, there is not a lot of shade at the campsites yet.

Nice site - no cell service

We stayed at Colt Creek for one night at the beginning of February. We were lucky to have a very large site with good separation between neighbors - site 31. Note that you can see the entry road from the back, but this wasn’t a big deal for us since it was just an overnight stay. A lot of the other sites looked closer together with a little less privacy, but all of the sites looked well maintained. The tent sites were some of the best maintained sites I’ve ever seen. Our site was completely level. The trails looked nice, but we unfortunately didn’t have time to explore. One item of note - we had zero cell service (Verizon) which is normally a good thing on vacation, but a bad thing when working remotely. Would definitely stay here again when we’d have time to do trails and not worry about cell service.

Tired Tree Primative Site

Okay, so I didn’t do a ton of research, but I have driven around here before so I decided to get one of the primitive sites and do a little gear testing.

-$5+ per person/night -Bundles of firewood available for purchase (located at the site) -$5 arm loads -Fire ring, Picnic Table, Bench, and Garbage pail at the site

Walked the long way in (3.25miles), instead of the 1 mile route. The entire hike is through typical open grass “roads” cut and maintained in the Florida brush. The site itself had a nice vibe and is far away from any other sites at the park. A large open clearing could easily allow for a dozen tents, unfortunately, I brought my hammock,.. and this site is not set up for hammock camping.

With a little rigging and placement over a dried up gator hole, I found a spot that I could hang my hammock and shelter for the night.

I thoroughly enjoyed the spot, other than the lack of clearing for a hammock, and the mosquitos were absolutely unbearable... I am aware that it was rainy season in Florida, near a WMA named Green Swamp, but I went home with hundreds and hundreds of bites, despite my preparedness.

I would camp here again, maybe when it’s a little cooler and more dry, and also would hike in with a tent, or potentially take the shorter route and pull a wagon full of gear, to enjoy a bit more “glamped” feel.

No trees!

Small park, beautiful trees entering. However, the campground has 32 sites. None of them have a tree! Normally, it would be ok, but it was 95 outside and a real feel of 110! Clean restrooms and spacious sites. Would come back, but only in the winter.

Handi-capable Camping

Colt Creek State Park is one of the newer parks in the Florida State Park System. We had the opportunity to camp at one of the handicap accessible sites recently and found it to be very convenient. Path and pad on site were roomy and fire pit was higher than usual for safety. These tent sites had water and electric as well. There are 2 of these sites available and both are easily accessed from handicap parking close by. Because this is a new er park the trees have not grown in well enough yet to provide adequate shade so be prepared for that. There is a lovely fishing doc with easy access and bathrooms are just wonderful. There is a paved trail as well as wide dirt trails to explore. This is a great place to visit. Camp hosts were wonderful as well.

Wow! What a great find on a cool spring Tuesday.

We arrived to check in only to fine we were to get the last remaining campsite available. After checking in we drove to our campsite. The campsites are large and well spaced. With a lot of room in between them. A gravel back in drive area that contained a fire pit a grill, electric and water. A short walk to the bathrooms that were well laid out, large and exceptionally clean. After dinner we walked the camp road and enjoyed the night sky. Every star was out and clearly visible. Withe night turning cool and the skeeters emerging we headed into our cozy van camper to read and sleep the night away.

I was up early to see the rain clouds forming, the air was chilled and the liquid sunshine was starting to drip. Quickly making the coffee and tea on the Coleman camp stove proved to be a good decision. Packing up and taking down the pop-up shade awning went smoothly and we ate our breakfast in the van.

Time to explore the whole camp. The Youth camp are was beautiful and large. The Equestrian camp area was well laid out and well kept. On to a very large screened room with toilet facilities at the fishing and boating area. The ramp for putting in your kayak or canoe was great and the dock area was a joy to be on and use.

A Brand New Place For Adventure

Colt Creek State Park is one of the newest parks in the Florida State Park System. Their RV/Tent Campground just recently opened in early 2018. RV spots are spacious. There is not a lot of privacy between spots but cover will grow in in time. Most sites are in full sun most of the day. Tent camping areas are on grass not gravel. very nice dump and wash area at gate to campground. They also offer equestrian, group, and primitive camping at this location. The equestrian camp is well used and quite large with standard amenities for horses and campers. There are 2 primitive sites along a 10 mile loop trail. Group site does not have a pavilion but does have port o lets ( no water or electric). There are 4 lakes ( no swimming) on the property kayak/canoe rentals, nice fishing ares and a dock. Lots of wildlife. Great for biking as well.
