Old lime creek road beaver bond

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Elk trails thread through the area around Old Lime Creek Road Beaver Bond, a dispersed camping area in San Juan National Forest southeast of Durango. The turnoff sits 2.5 miles past Purgatory ski resort, just after a hairpin turn. Drive through the dirt parking lot and a meadow opens to the right, with tent spots continuing up the road toward a pond several miles in. Smaller RVs can stage near the south entrance, but the upper road past the cabins requires 4x4 and high clearance. Water is only available at the lake, so campers should arrive with enough supply. Some highway noise carries into the lower sites. Purgatoire Campground is a nearby alternative for those who want a more developed setup.

Beautiful View, don’t confuse with other Lime Creek

Our family of 6 stayed at Old Lime creek in July 2024, based on 5 star reviews on Campendium. We almost went to the wrong spot though, as there is another Lime Creek dispersed area in Creede, several miles down the highway.

Beautiful views, tons of wildflowers, weather was amazing, kind people. Turnoff was 2.5 miles past Purgatory ski resort, right after the hairpin turn. Go through the dirt parking lot, and the meadow opens up on your right. The road continues, with a few spots on the way up and a lovely pond several miles up. The road gets rougher past the cabins, and 4x4 and high clearance would help you out.

Some highway noise, but didn’t bother us. So convenient to Durango, Silverton, and an hour to Ouray.

Rugged road up to the lake with decent dispersed options

Smaller RVs can pull off at South entrance to the road and high clearance can continue on to the lake and trailhead further up the road.

Tent spots are available the entire way up.  Water was only available at the lake in August so come prepared.  Lots of elk trails, and the views were fantastic.  Road to the lake can be a bit busy and dusty if you have a spot close to it btw.
