Close to road

Road to get there zigzagging up above ski resort. Camping spots off road. Gets quite a bit of cars, atv’s, quads, and cars passing by. Not really worth the drive to get there. Sig campground wanted $17 a night, and this place should of been free. Just not well maintained at all. Maybe 7 spots, with a pit toilet. If you made it to sig, look for 578 letter signs. These spots good for 1-2 nights, might be better spots down the road? AT&T no bars. Got pretty chilly at night so bring warm coverings.

Beautiful sights with the sound of water

All the way down Hermosa Park Road (578) it's beautiful. We probably saw upwards of 15 (Probably more) dispersed camping spots until you hit hermosa camping loup where a lot of people bike. We found a gem of a spot across from Sigs Creek (paid) camping area that has the sig creek running north to south and the Hermosa Creek running east to west. There was also an awesome small water fall next to camp you could get in. Litterally, we were surrounded by water on 3 sides. The water was about 6" to 1' deep with the occasional Colorado Brook trout showing up. With a license and barbless hooks you can catch and release.

Some spots can be close to others. But overall they are spaces far enough that nobody can be heard. Only can see them from a distance.

We had no cell service and we use t-mobile. The closest gas station is about 8-10 miles away incase you forget something, which we did. We stayed 3 days and 3 nights and had an amazing time.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I access Hermosa Creek Campground via Hermosa Park Road in Colorado?

To access Hermosa Park Road 578 - Dispersed camping, you'll need to take the zigzagging road that climbs above the ski resort area. Hermosa Park Road (Forest Road 578) provides access to numerous dispersed camping spots along its length. The road continues until you reach the Hermosa camping loop, which is popular with mountain bikers. The drive offers beautiful scenery throughout, with camping spots visible from the main road. While the journey requires some navigation on mountain roads, the payoff is access to secluded camping in a beautiful forest setting.

Is the Hermosa Creek Campground suitable for RVs and large vehicles?

Hermosa Park Road 578 dispersed camping has limited suitability for larger RVs and vehicles. The access road zigzags up mountainous terrain, which can be challenging for longer or wider vehicles to navigate. Most dispersed sites are simple pull-offs from the main road without designated parking pads or turnarounds. Smaller trailers and modest-sized RVs might manage at some spots, but full-sized RVs would find it difficult to access and position at most sites. Consider a smaller vehicle or camping setup for the best experience.

What recreational activities can I enjoy in the Hermosa Creek Wilderness area?

The Hermosa Creek Wilderness area offers abundant recreational opportunities. Mountain biking is particularly popular, with the Hermosa camping loop serving as a hub for bikers. The area features numerous trails for hiking and exploring the surrounding wilderness. ATV and off-road enthusiasts can enjoy designated routes through the forest. Fishing is available in Sigs Creek, which runs through portions of the area. Wildlife viewing opportunities abound in this less-developed forest setting. The scenic beauty of the area makes photography and nature appreciation top activities for visitors seeking a wilderness experience.

What amenities are available at Hermosa Creek Campground?

Hermosa Park Road 578 offers true dispersed camping with minimal amenities. There are no facilities such as bathrooms, running water, trash service, or electrical hookups. Campers should come fully prepared with all necessary supplies including plenty of water. The camping area is not well-maintained, reflecting its primitive, dispersed nature. For those seeking more amenities, the nearby Sigs Creek camping area offers developed facilities for a fee (approximately $17 per night). Pack-in, pack-out principles apply, so be prepared to carry out all trash and waste.
