The Last Resort RV Park & Campground

Beautiful views and a relaxing environment.

The Last Resort is a lovely RV Park and campground on the Blanco River off Highway 84 between Chama, New Mexico and Pagosa Springs, Colorado. There are full RV hook ups in the loop and partial hook up by the river. The Bunk House is a small cabin with a queen bed and electricity. Many great tent camping sites. There is a nice Bathhouse with a full kitchen, bathrooms with showers and a coin operated washer/dryer. They are open year round, free wifi and pets welcome. There is a small store with ice, sodas, snacks, fishing tackle, RV supplies, and toiletries.

This is our 3rd summer at the Last Resort. It's a very laid back place with 2 playgrounds and plenty of activities for kids - horse shoes, volleyball, tether ball, etc. They have a nice 4th of July celebration, potluck dinners and camp fires. There are often horses (and a goat) on the property and plenty of space to take a nice walk. This year, we saw a lot of Canada geese and there are also chickens and ducks. We really love watching the many hummingbirds and hanging out by the river. Lots of campers like to fish or float down the river on inner tubes.

Well maintained, beautiful and friendly hosts make for a wonderful place to stay.

    Elkhorn RV Resort

    Great spot in Lake City

This is our first visit to Lake City so I've nothing to compare it to, but I loved this RVPark. Linda was gracious and accommodating. Bathrooms were spotless AND warm. We are at tail end of season so the park was not full at all, but even if it had been there are tables and trees between each site keeping from feeling claustrophobic. We drove past the other RV Park in town - on Henson Creek - you are on the river, but also on the highway and it was packed in. Elk Horn is off the highway nestled against the mountain, and just 4 block walk to "down town" Lake City. Highly recommend this spot. Call to make reservations. Linda gets right back to you. We also stayed on one of the cabins to give kids more trailer room. You provide the top bedding, but there was a queen bed and a bunk (so 4 could sleep easy). No bathrooms in the cabin but your close to the bathrooms.

South Fork Lodge & RV Park

Gravel pit, no bathroom, no amenities, ATV heavy

This is been one of my least favorite spots to stay thus far. This park has no bathrooms, no laundry, no fire pits… Nothing but a picnic table. It is fully gravel, sites weren’t level, and very loud early mornings with all of the ATV activity. I think it is far too expensive for the stay. The staff is nice, and it’s family owned—but everything else, including the location pretty much sucked. I really think it’s worth it to find another park around the area to stay.

We had full hook ups. WiFi didn’t work and no Phone service.

    South Fork Campground

    Rollin on the River

Spots right on the river are pure bliss.  Full hookups and the sound of the Rio Grande to lull you to sleep.  How great is that?

Full hookups were great.  Owners were fantastic and friendly.

The town of South Fork is very small but you can get groceries and gas.  South Fork is on the East side of Wolf Creek Pass, which is a beautiful, steep, drive.  The best part about the area is the ample amount of fishing.  This area is an anglers dream, reservoirs in every corner of the map with the Rio Grande at your fingertips.  Fishing dreams made!

Campground spots were well positioned but a tiny bit close.  I would highly recommend any of the ones on the river, you have plenty of space to spread out between the picnic table, fire ring and grassy area by the river's edge.

    Fitton Guard Station Cabin

    Proposal Spot

I proposed to my fiancé here. You can hike or OHV about a mile to the old ranger cabin in the bowl of a green valley. Cattle graze around the cabin and marmots dig around. The cabin is filled with four bunks beds, a good wood stove, and oil, paper towels, and bottles of stream water for boiling, all left by previous campers. There's a fire ring and makeshift bench outside, and the whole thing is ringed by a wooden fence. Worth the price, a very peaceful place.

    South Fork Campground

South Fork Campground + The Rio Grande River + Fly Fishing

My friend and I stayed at the South Fork Campground for a fly fishing trip.

The campground seems to be primarily a RV campground with 50 sites, but they do allow tent camping with 6 sites. There is an office at the entrance and the staff were friendly. Next to the office is a community room and laundry room.

The RV sites have water and electric hookup. The tent sites do not - at least ours did not. There are restrooms with sinks, toilets and showers nearby the campsites.

The campground itself sits on the Rio Grande River which is a world class fly fishing river. When we were visiting the river was flowing fast and deep, so it was not a very productive time. We choose to fish in the mountain lakes and streams instead.

Overall the South Fork Campground is a nice place to stay for a few days or longer. The campsites were a little close in proximity for me, but I'm one that is accustomed to backcountry camping where there are few people around. The campground is a short drive to the town of South Fork where there are grocery stores, gas stations and outdoor gear and fly fishing stores.

    Grandview Cabins and RV

    Peaceful

The RV park is extremely quiet and pet friendly. We extremely enjoyed our three day stay. We have already started planning for a return trip. They also have cabins for people to stay in it, traveling without their RV/tent.
