Golden Horn Dispersed

This place is a gem. You are up in the mountain basins here. You need to pass at least one mountain pass to get here. Trailer pullers make sure your engine is sound and breaks ready. Make sure you technically break to and keep it in low gears. Please please pack out what you pack in. Do NOT stay in one spot more than 14 days. There was one unit out there everyone was saying had been there for weeks. The water is glacial so you won't be swimming! Come with your own power source. The only thing they offer is a bathroom and you better bring your own TP. There are other dispersed spots along this road. it is a short drive in to Silverton where there is a grocery store, and other shops. This place is also located on the famous million dollar highway Of which has steep drops off so no room for error. Be safe out there. The Ice lake trailhead has some pay for campspots and the host sells wood. The trail is moderate to hard. You have to be in very solid shape to make all three lakes.

Gorgeous campground. Super tight spaces unless you can snag one on the side of the road.

It is worth just going to see and have lunch if you can’t snag a spot.

Great campground just 10 minutes from Silverton. Several spots are right next to a small stream, creating a peaceful atmosphere. The vault toilet helped us conserve water, and we used the public shower/bathroom in Silverton, which was very convenient. It's also close to many hiking trails, making it a great base for outdoor activities.

Loved this spot! Many spots along the road. Wildlife viewings were great. Starlink works amazing. 10/10

Found a great dispersed campsite near Silverton Co. Golden Horn dispersed camping area is located about 5 miles from Silverton Co.  This camping area is at 9600' elevation.   Head north on HWY 550 out of Silverton and turn onto FSR 585 along South Mineral Creek, There are several boondocking sites packed into this 5 mile stretch. This time of year (July), many are occupied and full. We arrived on a Thursday morning to find only one space available at this dispersed campground. Sites are covered in river rock. Nothing is level, so bring the right gear to manage that if it's important to you. There is a vault toilet, bring your own tp. Generators hum all day and deep into the night. T-Mobile 5G/4G somewhat available.    Access to several trails are nearby. Recommend off-road capable vehicle to get to Rico-Silverton trailhead.

This is a no frill campground. There are toilets. No fire pits, tables, electric, water, or dump available. Bring your own fire pit or use the make shift rock fire pits left by others. Verizon service was sketchy at best or plane none existent. We fit in a super C (semi truck rv) 41ftL x 13.5ftH with 30ft trailer without having to unhook. Right by the river. 2022

Location is insane. Silverton is a small town 4 Miles away that you can stock up before heading out. Scenery at the camp sites is amazing. Cold at night, was here mid October. Loved it

Dispersed sites on the way to Ice Lake(which is currently closed due to forest fire Devistation). These are kinda cool little sites, a bit rocky, with a vault toilet and nice stone fire rings. It’s next to the creek, so it might be a bit buggy. I was dive bombed by hummingbirds. The limit is 14 days, and most staying here seemed to be using as many as they could. Close to Silverton. Expect some construction traffic and noise as they rebuild a campground that burned to the ground in the forest fire.
