Great location great host

Got here around 2pm on a Friday and to my surprise there were only two or three other groups there so it felt like I had the place to myself which was great for me and my puppy. Sites are relatively close together but if you’re there while it’s quiet it shouldn’t matter. Host was also super friendly and helpful. Will definitely be back.

Beautiful Lake

Sites were fairly close together, but everyone was friendly. Filled up quickly on Friday, FCFS campground.

Vault toilets and firewood are both close by. Short walk to the lake, which is beautiful. Trail accessible within the grounds.

Awesome location

We decided that we didn’t need a table or fire ring and chose the lower lot. #5 is the best. Good views, right on the water. Only negatives is the closing of the rv dump down the road.

Awesome Overflow Campground and Host

This overflow campground has always come through for us when we’ve gotten a late start. We take our Dodge Travato and a tent. We are able to have a campfire-in the approved location of course! Mt. biking, swimming, hiking, SUP.... so many activities!

The lake is stunning but Tabor campground is kind of unappealing.

Tabor campground is the least desirable campground at Turquoise Lake. It’s a large parking lot and you setup camp in front of your vehicle, there’s no Aspen trees between the campsites so there’s a lack of privacy. Sometimes during events like the ultra-marathon the whole area can be inundated with tourists and this campground fills up primarily with campers that didn’t make a reservation for one of the more appealing campgrounds at Turquoise Lake.

Lakeside views and lots of privacy

Be prepared because this campground closes for the season soon! Nice site, great location near leadville and lakeside. Clean facilities and could fit any size RV here.

lovely campground in the woods

Great campground with lots of tree cover and with only a short walk to the lake. The trail around the lake is good for hiking and biking. Clean facilities

Frequently Asked Questions

What amenities and facilities are available at Tabor Campground in Leadville?

Tabor Campground offers vault toilets and firewood available close to the campsites. The sites have varying amenities - some include tables and fire rings, while others in the lower lot are more basic. The campground features plenty of tree cover in some areas, providing shade and natural surroundings. While the facilities are clean and well-maintained, the setup is relatively simple. The campground can accommodate various camping styles, from tents to larger RVs, with sufficient parking space where you set up camp in front of your vehicle.

Is Tabor Campground first-come, first-served or can you make reservations?

Tabor Campground operates exclusively on a first-come, first-served basis. Sites fill up quickly, especially on Fridays and during weekends, so arriving early is recommended to secure a spot. The campground sometimes serves as an overflow option when other Turquoise Lake campgrounds are full, making it a good backup plan for last-minute trips. During special events like ultra-marathons in the area, the campground can become especially busy, so plan accordingly.

How do reviews rate Tabor Campground compared to other Turquoise Lake camping options?

Tabor Campground receives mixed ratings compared to other Turquoise Lake options. Some consider it the least desirable campground at the lake due to its parking lot-style layout and limited privacy between sites, with fewer Aspen trees separating campsites. However, others appreciate its reliability as an overflow option and its accessibility. Site #5 in the lower lot is particularly noted for good views and lake proximity. While not as naturally secluded as other Turquoise Lake campgrounds, Tabor offers convenient lake access and can be less crowded at certain times, providing a more peaceful experience.

What activities are available near Tabor Campground at Turquoise Lake?

Tabor Campground offers excellent access to numerous outdoor activities. The lake is just a short walk away, perfect for swimming and stand-up paddleboarding (SUP). A trail accessible within the grounds connects to the larger path that circles Turquoise Lake, ideal for both hiking and mountain biking. The surrounding area provides additional recreational opportunities, with the campground's proximity to Leadville offering more adventure options. Fishing is available at the lake, and many sites have good views of the water. Campfires are permitted in designated fire rings, adding to the traditional camping experience.
