Where the Colorado Trail begins its journey through Pike National Forest, Meadows Group Campground sits in a forested setting along Buffalo Creek. This reservation-only facility accommodates large groups with two sites that each handle up to 25 vehicles, making it a base for organized events rather than individual camping.
The campground provides full hookups for RVs up to 99 feet, along with water, sewer connections, and trash service. A large parking area at the entrance includes pit toilets and connects to multiple trailheads. Hayley K. notes the site "is at the base of the Colorado Trail in the middle of Buffalo Creek," positioning groups directly on this major hiking route.
Access requires navigating rough roads that can challenge some vehicles. The terrain mixes open areas with forested sections near the creek, providing fishing opportunities for groups. At $195 per night, the campground targets large gatherings that can split costs among multiple parties. Reservations open on a rolling basis exactly one year in advance.
The Buffalo Creek area offers additional camping options, with Buffalo Creek Campground and Buffalo Campground both within a mile for groups needing overflow space or alternative dates.
