Meadows Group Campground

Where the Colorado Trail begins its journey through Pike National Forest, Meadows Group Campground sits in a forested setting along Buffalo Creek. This reservation-only facility accommodates large groups with two sites that each handle up to 25 vehicles, making it a base for organized events rather than individual camping.

The campground provides full hookups for RVs up to 99 feet, along with water, sewer connections, and trash service. A large parking area at the entrance includes pit toilets and connects to multiple trailheads. Hayley K. notes the site "is at the base of the Colorado Trail in the middle of Buffalo Creek," positioning groups directly on this major hiking route.

Access requires navigating rough roads that can challenge some vehicles. The terrain mixes open areas with forested sections near the creek, providing fishing opportunities for groups. At $195 per night, the campground targets large gatherings that can split costs among multiple parties. Reservations open on a rolling basis exactly one year in advance.

The Buffalo Creek area offers additional camping options, with Buffalo Creek Campground and Buffalo Campground both within a mile for groups needing overflow space or alternative dates.

Multiple campers praised this group campground's prime location near hiking trails, biking paths, and mountain lakes. Visitors frequently mentioned the beautiful, remote setting and excellent access to outdoor activities. The reservation-only format works well for large groups at $150 per night.

Group Campsite Perfect for Large Events

We were doing research for an upcoming large event and we came across this campground.

This is a Group site that is at the base of the Colorado Trail in the middle of Buffalo Creek.

This is a reservation only campground so you can’t get into the campground without a reservation. There is a large parking lot at the entrance to the campground with a pit toilet bathroom and multiple trails nearby.

There are 2 sites in the campground. There are 25 cars spots per site that are available. The campground is $150 a night but would be great for large events since there is plenty of space. When we called to reserve the site we found out that we were too early to book since they release availability on a rolling basis. On July 01, 2020 at 08:00 am MDT, availability will be released through July 01, 2021.

Best Camping in Colorado!

Dispersed camping is the way to go, and doing that on Grand Mesa is the ideal camping scenario. We would choose the Grand Mesa over anywhere in the state! Find a fun space and pull off the road, enjoy dozens of lakes for fishing and tons of great hiking and riding trails! You won’t find a better mountain. If you want a more groomed space, there’s multiple campgrounds hosted by the forest service to give you extra amenities, otherwise enjoy the hunt for that perfect spot!
