Best campground in Inyo National Forest!!

Fantastic campground right on the San Joaquin River and The Pacific Crest Trail. The sites are 1st come 1st served and no reservations! Elevation is 7,800ft with Lodgepole Pine, Western White Pine and Red & White Fir throughout. Fly fishing is fantastic all along the river and the hiking is world class. Facilities are excellently maintained with vault toilets and potable water available.

Amazing Gem Tucked Far Away from the Mammoth madness!

This campground was a great place for our family to hang out and hike for three days. So many cool trails lead right out from the campground and they’re cool with dogs too (on leases of course)! The camp host-Gary, was friendly, enjoyed his safety speech and helped us get acquainted with the grounds. You can walk to Devils Postpile (about 4 miles) from this campground. Only downside is that there is zero cell service!

Great Spot

Great campsite. I camp with an 18ft bumper pull no issues getting around and they have RV water fill up station but no dump station. Campground has two hiking trails right from the campground which is neat. Also has a river that runs next to some of the campsites. Close to mammoth for mountain biking, hiking, horse back riding, fishing and so much more. I stayed there for 5 days and still felt like there was still stuff to do and places to see. If you like to fish would recommend fly fishing.

A gem behind Mammoth Mountain

People were super friendly at the campsites. Camp host was a cool guy, full of information about the surrounding hikes, waterfalls, fishing, and lakes. Bathrooms were cleaned daily and easily accessible. San Joaquin River offers therapeutic views and sounds from the campsites. Two deer with velvet antlers approached our campsite in the morning while we sipped our insta coffee in the quiet cool air making it feel like we submerged in a real life fairy tail. I will be coming back again and again.

Gorgeous Sierra camping!

This campground was wonderful.. the first campground you come to heading down into Reds meadow or devils postpile area. You’ll want to purchase your adventure pass from either the Mammoth lakes adventure center or from the guard station as you enter the park. The guard station opens at 7am. Once you turn off the main road the campsites are about a quarter mile down a dirt road. Most of the sites seemed to be trailer or RV accessible. Plenty of shade and access to the river for spectacular fishing. There are NO hookups or Cleanout areas located In the valley. There is also a camp host with Firewood for sale. The nearest store Is located In Reds Medow or back up the hill to the town of mammoth which in the summer can take up to 45 minutes to get to up the hill due to the high traffic entering the valley. Note: I had zero cell phone service. Restrooms and water were available. There is also plenty to keep busy such as The devils Postpile and Rainbow falls loop (4 miles) take plenty of water! Scotcher Lake Is also worth a cast or two! Please remember to store your food properly in the bear boxes provided for this is active bear country!
