Fallen trees

Pretty much says it in the title. Fortunately, was exploring with just the jeep for a campsite near south entrance yosemite. Would have had a really hard time getting turned around with teardrop trailer. Don't bother trying this spot. It will take many many months for the road to be cleared. Have a feeling most roads in the area have downed trees. Was told they had a storm with 90+ mph winds that have trees down everywhere. Recommend just exploring the area with tow vehicle first if you have trailer/rv

Beautiful and quite

Very beautiful place! Camping under the beautiful sequoia trees the smell of the pine cones. Need a 4x4 to get to the campground and it took us about 45min up the mountain to find the place but it was perfect once we got there. Stayed here June 2020

Frequently Asked Questions

What amenities are available at Summit Meadow Campground?

Summit Camp Campground offers a rustic camping experience with limited amenities. The main feature is the natural setting among magnificent sequoia trees, providing a peaceful forest atmosphere with the pleasant scent of pine cones. The campground is primitive, so visitors should be prepared to bring all necessary supplies including water. There are no electrical hookups, shower facilities, or flush toilets available. Pack everything you'll need for your stay and be prepared for a true backcountry camping experience.

Where is Summit Meadow Campground located in Yosemite?

Summit Camp Campground is not actually located within Yosemite National Park. It's situated in Sierra National Forest, approximately 45 minutes up the mountain from the south entrance of Yosemite. The campground is nestled among beautiful sequoia trees, creating a scenic pine-scented environment. The location requires navigating mountainous terrain, and a 4x4 vehicle is highly recommended for accessing the site due to the challenging road conditions.

Do I need reservations for Summit Meadow Campground?

Summit Camp Campground typically operates on a first-come, first-served basis rather than a reservation system. However, accessibility can be extremely limited due to road conditions. The access road can be impassable for extended periods, particularly after winter or during early spring, making the campground effectively unavailable regardless of reservation status. Before planning a trip, contact Sierra National Forest headquarters for current road conditions and campground status. A 4x4 vehicle is essential for reaching the campground when it is open.
