California State Parks wants to thank our park visitors for helping us keep our parks and environment clean. In 2018, State Parks installed new RV dump station collection systems at ten state park units as part of a pilot program to help us protect the environment and are added amenities for our visitors.

Following the success of the initial pilot program in 2018, an additional eleven park units have been added to the program.  The service is available for campers, day-use or transient visitors for $10-$20 per use, depending on the location. Please note that visitors with current reservations arriving on or after April 13, 2021, who are interested in using the RV dump stations may be required to pay the use fee. The price per campsite for these state parks does not include the use of a dump station.  View the following link:  Camping Information

All RVs must now back into their campsites. When the gates are locked, Silver Strand SB is unique and restricts campground vehicle access into and out of the park each night. The seasonally posted hours are as follows: Gates close 7 pm in winter (11/1 ___ 2/28); 8 pm spring (3/1 ___ Thursday before Memorial Day); 9 pm summer (Friday before Memorial Day ___ Labor Day); and 8 pm fall (Tuesday after Labor Day ___ 10/31). Gates open year round at 7 am.

Camping reservations can only be made through Reserve California at reservecalifornia.com or by calling 1-800-444-7275. Reservations can be made as soon as the same day or up to 6 months in advance, based on availability. Silver Strand State Beach Campground requires a self-contained camping unit and offers only hook-up sites. In order to obtain the most accurate information on available camp sites, be sure to select hook-up as the site type on the Reserve California web site.

Notice of Beach and Bay Water Quality Monitoring Program : The ocean shoreline and bay at Silver Strand State Beach will be intermittently closed to public water contact when there is a threat to public health. For more information and updates on current conditions including closures, please visit San Diego County Beach and Bay Water Quality Program at http://www.sdbeachinfo.com/ before visiting the park.

Thank you for your patience as we finalize the 2026 inventory. Please continue to check back. We will be releasing the inventory as soon as it becomes available.

Atmosphere is great!

Hello, and blessings! I came here with my family for a quick getaway. Campgrounds are clean but tight, we have a 32’ Rv with two slides. Took up most of our hang out room/ porch area. We had to park our second car in the overnight parking lot next to the campground. Costed 20 bucks. If traveling with a shorter rig you can park in front of your rig. Back in only. Water and power hookups only. Dude comes around in the mornings and will clean out your waste tanks for 25 bucks. Or you can dump yourself inside the campground dump station on the way out for 10 bucks. Atmosphere is great, however my neighbors were awesome. Steps away from the beach but was told by a few locals not to swim at the state beach because of sewage contamination from Tijuana in the water. But it’s still beautiful and doesn’t smell and will actually have you guessing if it’s really contaminated. I took the locals word for it. Rainy season is absolute no for water play. Summer, just don’t get the water in your eyes or mouth. But collect as many sand dollars on the beach after high tied as you can carry. Surf fish up to knee high but watch out for the jelly fish. Normal beach play, balls, kites or anything you like to set up on the sand. Ride bikes, eat good food and relax. Swimming is allowed about short walk north in the bay. I would definitely come back for a visit. I came Father’s Day weekend 2025.

Silver strand campground

This is basically a parking lot with water and electric hookups only. There is a clean out station available. Great bicycle trail to Coronado and imperial beach.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I bring my RV to Silver Strand State Beach Campground?

Yes, Silver Strand State Beach Campground accommodates RVs with water and electric hookups. The campground is essentially a paved parking lot with designated sites, which works well for RVs but means spaces are quite close together. Larger RVs (32' and above) with slides may find the sites tight, potentially limiting outdoor living space. There is a dump station available for use. If you have a second vehicle, be prepared to park it in the overnight lot adjacent to the campground for an additional fee (approximately $20).

How do I make reservations at Silver Strand State Beach Campground?

Reservations for Silver Strand State Beach Campground can be made through the California State Parks reservation system. Given the popularity of this beach campground, booking well in advance is highly recommended, especially for summer months and weekends. When making a reservation, be prepared to specify your camping equipment (RV size, tent, etc.) and preferred dates. For the most up-to-date reservation information and to check availability, visit the California State Parks website or call their reservation line directly.

Is Silver Strand State Beach Campground open year-round?

Yes, Silver Strand State Beach Campground is open year-round for camping. The mild Southern California coastal climate makes this a popular destination in all seasons. However, availability may vary throughout the year, with summer months being the busiest period. The campground provides a consistent option for beach camping regardless of season.

Are there food options available at Silver Strand State Beach?

Silver Strand State Beach itself has limited food service options directly on site. Most campers bring their own food supplies and prepare meals at their campsite. However, the campground's location provides easy access to nearby food options. The excellent bicycle trail connects to both Coronado and Imperial Beach, where you'll find numerous restaurants and grocery stores. For convenience, it's recommended to bring basic food supplies with you, but know that additional options are accessible with a short drive or bike ride.
