Off-highway vehicle enthusiasts and boondockers find expansive flat camping across this dry lake bed managed by the Bureau of Land Management. Multiple access points lead from the highway onto the sandy, level terrain where RVs of all sizes can position themselves up to a mile from the road. The open expanse accommodates big rigs easily, with campers able to spread out across the unmarked area.
Access requires following established tracks rather than creating new paths. Alisa B. notes "lots of entrances to the site from the highway, just be sure to follow an already made path." The coordinates provided may not pinpoint the exact camping zone, requiring map verification to confirm BLM boundaries. Highway noise carries across the flat terrain, along with sounds from nearby Baker.
Sites closer to the main road see more activity, while those venturing farther out find increased isolation. Campers need fire permits from BLM if planning campfires. The location serves as a convenient overnight stop near Interstate 15, with Mad Greek Cafe and gas stations accessible in town. Cell service reaches most areas of the lake bed, making this a functional base for travelers heading to Death Valley or other desert destinations.
