    Katherine Landing South Campground

    Close to all the action

Really a nice campground, nice big spots, tables and a fire pit as well as a laundry room and did I mention clean bathrooms!!! oleander trees space out each camp spot which give you all the privacy anyone could need. Perfect place to ride bikes and it’s a good walking distance to the pier with restaurant, grocery store, fishing and boat rentals. This is like a village in its own. Great area for sure and it’s the perfect time now before it’s to hot.

    An oasis in the heat!

Arrived late on a Sunday and met by a lovely security guard who showed us to a pitch. The pool was an absolute lifesaver in the August heat! Friendly locals (we needed a tin opener!) and several chatted to us in the pool and social room. Site is clean, toilets and shower block spacious and tidy. Book exchange and games/jigsaws. Would highly recommend.

Davis Camp Park - Mohave County

    Anything and everything

This camp ground has so much it’s a little village in its own. Who doesn’t love camping and walking straight out to the River at your feet? Literally tent camping is allowed that close. Forgot your ice? They sale that on site as well. They have dump stations for your RVs and fresh water source to Fill up. They have covered tables and bbq grills as well. You can rent cabins that they have available but they are always booked up so if that’s what your after make sure to book in advance. Even if your not camping and you just want to go in it’s ten dollars no matter just so you know. Summer time this place is lines miles long so get there a day early before the weekend starts to save you a little wait. This place you can get to by boat, drive, and even walking. They do have clean bathrooms and it’s Well kept. Keep your food in containers because they have skunks and raccoons.. I know crazy.. little fact the entire Laughlin area has them near the water and hotels because they want a quick meal. AnywAy have proper storage because you may wake up to nothing... really nice place on the water!

    Waterfront campsites

Loved being able to set up our Napier Sportz tent with our Subaru at the river's edge on the Colorado River just outside of Bullhead City, Az. (across from Laughlin, NV). So clear! Lots of families with jet skis, which we found entertaining although noisy. We just parked our beach chairs in the water as it was hot!! Bath and showers ok, but a hike up the stairs. Pet friendly, too!

Arrowhead Cove — Lake Mead National Recreation Area

    Private cove with gentle waters

I was looking for a remote Cove to set up for a couple nights on Lake Mead and found this little gem off the beaten path but still accessible on a rugged and steeply graded access road. There is a sign at the entrance of Mead-Davis Powerline Rd road that says 4x4 recommended... Take this to heart.

(We came down from north of the cove off of Princess Cove Rd. There is also access from the south off of the same Princess Cove Rd. We didn't see that route driving in at night... Probably try that next time.)

This Cove is sheltered from wind by trees and tall grass. A small peninsula also blocks direct site from the water so this is a very private site.

The water is the clearest I've ever seen and the water fowl dive freely along the banks. There is a treasure trove of wildlife here apparent just from the birds singing. It was a cacophony of songbirds just before the sun went down over the mountains over the water to the west, Nevada's coastline to the Colorado River fed Lake. There are also Gila monsters, tortoise, mules and many more creatures that come visit the water-side.

It was refreshing rinsing off in the crisp, clear water! Bring water shoes as most of the coastline is rocky.

Do not leave food out and also there are no glass containers allowed at this location! Respect your wildlife community and those enforcing the sustainable practices. Shout out to the upstanding rangers working this area! Thanks for watching over us and the respectful reminders.

What to do

River activities year-round: At Davis Camp Park, water recreation dominates visitor experiences across seasons. "Loved being able to set up our Napier Sportz tent with our Subaru at the river's edge on the Colorado River just outside of Bullhead City, Az. (across from Laughlin, NV). So clear! "It's neat if you take the water taxis across to the casinos and walk the boardwalk, there are so many bugs so be prepared," advises a reviewer from Colorado River Oasis RV Resort, suggesting bug protection for evening outings.

What campers like

Private waterfront locations: Arrowhead Cove offers secluded spots away from crowds. Charlie C. notes, "Total privacy at this hidden beach on Lake Mead... I can't stress that enough. Luckily for me, no signs of human life were detected during my two night stay." This contrasts with busier developed sites.

Clean facilities: Bathrooms and amenities receive frequent positive mentions across properties. At Ridgeview RV Resort, Brittney C. appreciated the "Clean bathrooms, Spotless pool and spa, Stunning restaurant that offers brunch for $5 dollars on the weekends."

Wildlife viewing: The region supports diverse desert and riparian wildlife. At Arrowhead Cove, a visitor observed, "The water fowl dive freely along the banks. There is a treasure trove of wildlife here apparent just from the birds singing. It was a cacophony of songbirds just before the sun went down over the mountains."

What you should know

Weather considerations: Summer temperatures regularly exceed 100°F, while winter brings comfortable days and cool nights. Kate B. at Riverside Adventure Trails RV Resort shared, "The pool was an absolute lifesaver in the August heat! Friendly locals (we needed a tin opener!) and several chatted to us in the pool and social room."

Access challenges: Some dispersed sites require appropriate vehicles. At Arrowhead Cove, Lyle F. cautions, "There is a sign at the entrance of Mead-Davis Powerline Rd road that says 4x4 recommended... Take this to heart." Many yurt camping options near Nipton require advanced reservations.

Crowding patterns: Weekends and holidays see significantly increased visitor numbers. "Davis camp has gotten very populated over the years and gets really crowded, really quickly. If you want a nice spot, better get there early," warns Shalynn S.

Tips for camping with families

Activity options: Properties with multiple recreation options work best for families with children. Lane H. observed at Davis Camp Park, "The kids love the open areas to run and play in though there are not great playgrounds. The sites are mostly level but could use some maintaining."

Safety considerations: Select developed campgrounds for family stays with children. Parents note that established campgrounds provide secure environments despite proximity to urban areas. Lisa G. explains, "Based on the street we were on, Bullhead City was a very sketchy place though and did not feel very safe. The campsite itself felt safe though."

Noise awareness: Motor boats and watercraft create ambient noise at waterfront sites. Claudia B. mentioned Davis Camp Park was "Lots of families with jet skis, which we found entertaining although noisy," suggesting families should consider noise tolerance when selecting sites.

Tips from RVers

Site selection strategy: At Katherine Landing, an experienced RVer advises, "My trailer is a 31 ft tt somewhat windy but trees break up the wind. 24 a night, 12 with senior access. Decent size sites, clean bathroom showers."

Hook-up specifics: Most developed RV sites in the region offer full hookups with 50-amp service. Scott W. at Davis Camp Park shared, "We are new to RVing and recently purchased a 2018 Jayco Greyhawk 29MV and wanted to take it some where close, so Davis Camp it was! Staff was great, neighbors were great, and the trip was very enjoyable! RV had no issues!"

Supplies access: Proximity to urban services provides convenient restocking options. Lisa G. notes, "Close to the city- so we unhooked the RV and for gas and picked up a few items. They have a Walmart, Sams Club and Home Depot within two miles away," making yurt camping near Nipton, California convenient for resupply needs.
