Trail exploration: Access hiking paths directly from several campgrounds. "There is a nice walking trail around the park. I would argue it's even better part of the beach. Nice rock formations and sandy beach. Unhook and go see Emerald Bay. Make sure you check out the waterfall and short like to eagle lake," advises Randy J.

Family-oriented amenities: Activities keep children entertained throughout their stay. "They put on a ton of events like karaoke nights, live music, and smores nights. Hot showers and well lit clean bathrooms. Hard to find solitude or silence," explains Dani P. about Tahoe Valley Campground's organized social calendar.
Off-season tranquility: Less crowded conditions in fall and winter months provide a different experience. "We went on the weekend of Sept. 18 through Sept. 20th, 2021. The drive wasn't as bad as I thought, I actually enjoyed it. The campground was nice, the host is nice as well, not a lot of other people where there so it was fairly private," reports Emi from French Meadows.
Level sites for larger rigs: Concrete pads provide stability for bigger motorhomes. "We have a 35 foot 5th wheel and came into south lake to visit family. This campground is right in town but there's enough space and trees to give it a natural setting. Bathrooms are great and it's pretty quiet considering it's popular," notes Sarah R.
What you should know
Reservation complexity: Some campgrounds have challenging booking systems. "The line at 2pm was horrible! I got there at 2:01 and there were already 20 people in front of me. The process is painfully slow. People were getting out of their vehicles and standing in the line on the right essentially cutting the cars in front of them," warns Nicki M.

Kid-friendly activities: Look for campgrounds with planned events. "Super busy campground with kids running around and riding bikes. They put on a ton of events like karaoke nights, live music, and smores nights," recommends Dani P.
Swimming options: Choose locations with safe water access. "We were here in August. Slightly long to get to on the windy roads at night time, but during the day the drive back wasn't bad. Loved the water access, and water was perfect temperature for swimming for our toddlers even," shares Anastasia P.
