Accessible via Cat Creek Road off Highway 88 near Hams Station, Middle Fork Cosumnes Campground sits along the Middle Fork Cosumnes River in Eldorado National Forest, about 18 sites spread across a forested corridor where most spots sit close to the water. Sites accommodate smaller RVs and travel trailers, and each has a table and fire ring. No electrical hookups or dump station are available, so self-contained rigs are necessary. Drinking water and toilets are on-site, and firewood is typically available from the camp host. No pets are allowed.
The river is the main draw. A sliding rock and swimming hole are located nearby, and fishing and hiking round out the activity options. Weekends fill up consistently, but weekday visits tend to find open sites without much competition. One reviewer noted the campground was quiet on a Wednesday night, with good visibility of the night sky, though a large group arriving the following evening changed that atmosphere considerably. Cell coverage is limited; T-Mobile had little to no signal during at least one recent visit.
"Fishing, swimming, and hiking are activities," notes Stephen K., who also points out that Bear River Reservoir Resort is a close drive away. Site 6 is closer to the road but has been described as feeling well-screened from neighboring sites. The campground runs from May through November. Campers who find the site full can check availability at Pipi Campground nearby, or browse campgrounds around Eldorado National Forest for additional options in the area.
