Howard Meadows Campground

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Mendocino National Forest manages Howard Meadows Campground, a dispersed-style site in the hills above Covelo accessible by drive-in, hike-in, or walk-in routes. The road in runs muddy in wet conditions and requires a capable 4x4; a secondary exit exists but demands low-range four-wheel drive. No trash service is provided. A trickling creek runs through the area, and vault toilets are on-site. No pets are allowed. Anglers and those looking for camping near Mendocino National Forest will find Little Doe Campground 1.2 miles north as a nearby alternative.

Nice Out Of The Way Spot

01-17-2021 road in was muddy, but a capable 4x4 can handle it easily. Sites are dispersed, vault toilet, no trash. Trickling creek with frogs in the evening. It was windy over night and the road back out was blocked by a tree. There is another way out, but it's a Jeep trail and definitely requires 4lo. Our '03 4runner handled it fairly eaaily.
