Albee Creek Campground — Humboldt Redwoods State Park

This park is gorgeous and the drive into the site rivals the avenue of the giants. The location is very remote. 

I think it’s common of California parks, but of note, the showers are quarter operated. Make sure you bring quarters. Unfortunately this park does not communicate that at all which was pretty frustrating.

Great hidden gem. The campsite down a dirt road and the area offers tranquility!

This a great campsite for a quiet night or two and can be used as a base for exploring the Groves in the area.

Get there early or make reservations in advance.. This place fills up fast! I had to stay in the overflow.

Being in the giant trees is very humbling.

We have camped the Humboldt Redwoods several times and it took us 3 years to find this spot. We have a 25ft trailer we tow. This campground can only accommodate smaller trailers in only a few spots. We are avid campers that prefer tucked away campgrounds which are often hard to find when you have a trailer but this one has everything on our list! Fresh water, quarter showers, flushing toilets, off the main road, big sites, lots of wildlife, walking paths to one of the most beautiful redwood groves in the park, creek for the kids. The list goes on and on! We will be back (again and again). Make sure you visit small costal towns of Ferndale and/or Trinidad.

We saw wild turkeys, a baby fox, deer, and our neighbors saw bears! A really cool spot to camp! Large campsites.

This campground is lovely. Opened Memorial Day weekend. There are clean, spacious restrooms, showers, and even giant laundry tubs/sinks. Offers a variety of spots, from heavily forested to open meadow. The creekside sites are the best.  There are a few sites that offer privacy. I found the employees to be wonderful and most of the campers to be well behaved. This place seems to attract real outdoors enthusiasts so you may have some loud, drunk neighbors but they go to bed early so as not to miss out on fishing. Like all state parks in California, dog are welcome in the campground but not on any trails. You can’t access any of the streams legally with a dog. Probably best enjoyed without the the fur babies. Heed the signs warning against RVs and trailers.

Beautiful place! While camping here a bear walked right through our site while we were in it to get to an apple tree about 50 ft from us. Really scary being that close, but also really cool. Also had a lovely hike not too far from the campground.

Great location. Quick walks to hiking trails and swimming locations as well. Hikes are strenous and long, which I loved. Family friendly. Restrooms and showers available.

This campsite is part of Humboldt State Park and is nestled right in the middle of a grove of giant redwoods.  We left our tent fly off so that we could look straight up and see the redwoods towering over us, and the stars were also amazing.  Within the state park you can go on several walks through famous redwood groves and see humorous trees such as the "Flat Iron Tree" and "Giant Tree" (lol).  This was a one night stop for us on the way to more of the redwoods north up the coast.

Would definitely stay here again

We're motorcycle campers and this is one of our favourites. It is a good 25 minute drive each way to Myers Flat for provisions so stop on the way. Last time we were there the road in was all broken up but I hear that it has been re-paved in the summer of 2018.

Grest campground for families. Has an old apple orchard that bears frequently forage. A beautiful and quiet park.

We've staid here several years in a row now, and we always book the same site. Most of the sites under the trees are a bit close, but there are a few along the outside off the lower loop that open out to this amazing valley. Each year something big has happened. One year we had a (roughly) two year old bear about 60 feet from our camp, just hanging out in the apple tree, eatting apples. This year there was a star gazing party and and astronomy club brought high powered telescopes and showed us all several beautiful things in the sky. The bathrooms are well maintained too, which is always a plus. This is currently my favorite camp ground.

My wife introduced me to this little gem about 8 years ago. She has been coming to this spot with her family since she was a toddler. The site was actually a fruit orchard prior to being sold and turned into a campground. Nestled on the Avenue of the Giants (Highway 101) and far enough off the main road to feel like you are a little lost is Albee Creek Campground. The large meadow in front of the camp sites has tall grass that helps hide the deer and bears that like to come out and eat from the fruit trees that produce during the summer time. It's not uncommon to stroll the meadow early morning or in the evening and see the Black Bears up the fruit trees munching away on apples and the Deer eating what the bear drop. Bull Creek that runs along Albee is a wonderful for a shady hike in the cool water while looking for frogs, turtles, snakes and salamanders. My boys love doing this and hanging out here most of the time. Just outside of Albee and next to Highway 101 is the Eel River which has some beach access areas where you can easily find a spot to relax with your feet in the river water while you sip on a cold one. GREAT PLACE!
