Wildlife watchers and creek enthusiasts will find Albee Creek Campground sits on a former fruit orchard, where remnant apple trees still attract black bears during summer months. Located along the Avenue of the Giants within Humboldt Redwoods State Park, this 35-site campground operates from mid-May through mid-October and requires a 25-minute drive from Myers Flat for supplies.
The campground spreads across varied terrain, from heavily forested sites beneath towering coast redwoods to open meadow spots that face a large grassy field. Nikki T. notes the campground "offers a variety of spots, from heavily forested to open meadow," with creekside sites being the most sought-after. Campers regularly spot deer, wild turkeys, and black bears, particularly near the fruit trees where bears climb to feed on apples.
Bull Creek runs alongside the campground, providing opportunities for wading and searching for frogs, turtles, and salamanders in the cool water. The Eel River lies just outside the campground near Highway 101, offering beach access areas for relaxation. Walking paths connect directly to some of the park's notable redwood groves, including access to famous trees like the Flat Iron Tree and Giant Tree. Quarter-operated showers, flush toilets, and large laundry tubs serve campers, though bringing quarters proves essential.
The campground accommodates RVs up to 24 feet with electric, water, and sewer hookups, though several reviewers warn about size restrictions for larger rigs. Nikki T. advises visitors to "heed the signs warning against RVs and trailers." The access road was repaved in 2018, improving conditions from the previously broken surface. Reservations fill quickly during peak season, so advance booking helps secure preferred sites.
