    Chemin-A-Haut State Park

Amazing state park, sadly underfunded. Still worth a trip.

Pretty state park, swimming pool during summer, gorgeous trails on an enchanting bayou, wooded back in slots with a camp host, not much to do in Bastrop but this park is a great attraction. No sewage but there is a dump station. There is also tent camping, cabins, and equestrian camping and trails but there have been budget cuts that prevent horse trail maintenance and road repairs, so you don’t know what you’ll get sometimes. The park has playgrounds and pavilions.

    Lake Chicot State Park Campground

    nice park

After booking through Arkansas State Parks website, we received a follow up call from the park itself which was unusual but very nice. We booked site 42 in area B but there was standing water in the site so we got site 50. We chose this site because it was on higher ground and relatively close to the bath house in area D. The bath house in our area is no longer opened. Bath house D is very nice. We had no problems switching sites probably due to the off season.

Camping areas C and E are closed. Area F has full hook-ups and 30 amps. The sites are nice but a little short. Cabins are VERY nice. Area A contains the prime sites with full hook-ups and 30 and 50 amps. There is a bait store and a marina which rents boats (closed due to off-season). There is a fishing pier, basketball court, pool, 3 pavilions, playground, and a horseshoe pit. The visitor's center is very nice and informative.

Wildlife seems to be abundant as we saw dozens of deer, large raccoons, squirrels, pelicans, and ducks.

Cell phone (Verizon) and antenna reception are good possibly because there are no leaves on the trees.

    Cane Creek State Park

Ok this is the most beautiful place we’ve found in Arkansas with kayaking among the trees and flowers. They have tons of events like moonlit full moon kayak, we didn’t get to do it - next time! They have all kinds of boat rentals here including some with motors. The camp sites have trees and shade, water right next to your tent, wasn’t too much of a trek to the bathrooms and shower houses, which were clean and modern.

    Cane Creek State Park Campground

    A quiet and pleasant place

I grew up in Star City and have been to this park many times. It is not a breathtaking place, but it accurately portrays the nature of south Arkansas. I have seen ducks, deer armadillos and eagles live here as well. The playgrounds are good. The pavilions are clean and the AC works well. Halloween brings thousands of visitors each fall. The campsites all decorate for the holiday and everyone wants to see it!

    Cane Creek State Park Campground

    Gorgoeus park with fun activities

We visited Cane Creek over Memorial Day weekend. The sites were level. We did have several fire ant hills that we had to deal with and quite a few red wasps. We were able to watch numerous birds (pileated woodpeckers) and even saw a swamp rat swimming in the lake (resembles a beaver with a skinny tail). You have to walk through thick brush on a slope to reach the water. My husband mostly chose to walk down to the fishing pier and docks. It was about a two minute walk away from our site. We stayed in site 17 I believe.

There are water and electricity hookups with a bathroom close by. We rode bikes so it didn’t take long to get the the restroom. Our neighbors had issues with their electricity because they were trying to run an air fryer, and it kept throwing the breaker. We ran our box fan without any issues.

You can rent kayaks for very reasonable. Do it! The water trail is unlike any I have seen. Don’t miss out on the hiking trails, but watch out for ticks!

You can rent an RV here as well. It’s set up at the entrance of the campground. It seemed like a nice setup. We rode past it several times on our explorations of the park.

    Cane Creek State Park Campground

Very nice little park off the beaten path

Staff is wonderful! Sites are large to accommodate any size rig & truck. Smaller campground with many nearby trails thru the forest. Very peaceful quiet place. Hot showers, bait shop, rentals & a little campstore as well.

Nice RV spots with full hookups. Cellular service isn’t great but they do have Wi-Fi. The RV camping area has a nice, new, and clean restroom and shower facility with coin-operated laundry.

    Chemin-A-Haut State Park

    Ok for last minute

It was a last minute booking, for a holiday weekend, after a major hurricane. Campground was nice, nice & clean bathhouses, nice pool[closed due to pandemic]. Cabins looked nice, too. Just have to be careful what sight you book, because I almost never got my camper level in sight #21. All in all, I would make a return trip

    Leroy Percy State Park Campground

Small state park makes a great stopover

Leroy Percy State Park is a small, but pretty state park with 16 full hookup campsites, 4 cabins and a nice disc golf course. Most of the campsites are shaded, at least for part of the day. Other than one other camper who appeared to have been there awhile, we were the only occupied campsite. Mosquitoes caused us to eat dinner inside our trailer, although it was otherwise nice enough to eat outside. The bathrooms were old, but mostly clean. The only exception being the handicapped men's shower which was a mess.
