      White Buffalo Resort

      Can't beat it!

It's such a beautiful place, right on the White River and the Buffalo River, just yards away. The best of both rivers. The resort is well maintained and the staff is friendly. There's a pool in the summer and a ping pong table. The bathrooms do not have air conditioning, but are clean.

      Dam - Quarry

      Clean campground, nice location

Average space between sites. Level paved sites with gravel picnic area including picnic table, fire ring, lantern hanger. Some sites had covered picnic area. Limited shade, most sites don’t have trees. Good access to sites. Clean and private bathrooms. Each room had its own lockable bathroom with toilet, sink and shower. Garbage cans were outside of bathrooms, as well as dumpsters near the registration building. Friendly staff upon check in. Campground was patrolled regularly. No laundry or recycling. Nearby road with little road noise. Verizon cell signal was excellent. There is a dump station and potable fill station. No store or food for purchase on site. No hiking in campground, but multiple trails nearby. Boat ramp at campground and lots of wading fly fishing in river. Fish hatchery across from campground.

Petit Jean State Park — Petit Jean State Park

      So much to do!

This was our first time at Petit Jean and definitely won’t be the last! My 1st suggestion: RESERVE EARLY to get a spot in Loop A or Loop B. We stayed in Loop C and I felt a little too secluded. The sites in C & D appeared to be a little smaller. I noticed several sites in B & C were uneven from roots pushing the asphalt up. Beware! Loop A is full hookup while B-D have electricity & water only. We stayed on Site 64 in a pop up style camper. It was fairly level and there were a couple good places for tents. Everyone around us was tent camping. My main complaint was the bathroom. The showers are not very private other than a nasty mildewed shower curtain, but there is no where to dry off or dress that is private. The showers were nasty on the weekend that we went, but it was also a revolving door of a massive group of 30+ tent campers that was using the showers. They were a lot cleaner on Sunday thankfully. The park itself is absolutely breathtaking! We went to the Cedar Falls Overlook, Palisades Overlook and Stout Point Overlook. We also made the hike down to Cedar Falls. It was absolutely incredible, but you should be somewhat in decent shape for this hike as it was not easy! We also hiked Bear Cave. It was nice with lots of exploring around the cave. We ate dinner at Mather Lodge one night. I had the Catfish Platter and it was excellent. I’m already ready to plan another trip here during the summer so we can utilize the boat house and a few other amenities that are closed during the off season. Well worth a fall visit though!

      Beautiful and Clean

We stayed at Petit Jean State Park during the week of Thanksgiving. It’s a popular place, so very busy, but all the campers around us were very courteous, friendly, and obeyed quiet time rules. The sites (we were in a tent in Loop C) were spacious and clean, as were the bathhouses. The Visitor’s Center/Registration was well-stocked and staff was efficient and welcoming. We ate dinner at Mather’s Lodge-the food was mediocre but service was great.

Petit Jean State Park — Petit Jean State Park

      Last minute fun

We took our little camper out to Petit Jean for the first time and it was a blast. We were a little unprepared, so we stayed in the overflow area. This part is not paved and has no fire pit, so we couldn't have a fire. If you have a portable fire pit you can have a fire there. Also those spots do not have a grill, but we have a small one that we were able to use. The driveways to get to the overflow area are a bit rough (roots sticking up through the dirt) and it takes a bit to get level (sloped toward the lake). However, the dump station is very clean and convenient. We will definitely come back to Petit Jean in the future.

      Sylamore Creek Camp

      Quiet little campground

For a small campground, this place has a lot to offer. Well stocked store, RV sites, tent sites, group sites, cabins, pavilion, and even a stage for events.

Quick access to the Syllamore Trail, the creek, and nearby mountain biking trails.

      All kinds of camping options

Love this place because there are so many types of camp sites available. Great areas to look around and hike. Restaurant is pretty decent and breakfast was hot and delicious. There’s a little petting zoo thing close by for kids. Playground was great.

    Guide to Clinton

Dispersed camping near Clinton, Arkansas offers waterside campsites along Greers Ferry Lake and the Little Red River. Sites range from primitive setups to full-hookup campgrounds with direct lake access. Winter temperatures average 30-50°F, while summer ranges from 70-90°F with higher humidity, affecting camping comfort throughout the seasons.

    What to do

Fishing opportunities: At Choctaw, lake fishing is a primary attraction. One camper noted, "Fishing is a way of life for most lovers of the lake but you also have boating of all types." The area supports both casual bank fishing and dedicated boat anglers.

Hiking trails: Petit Jean State Park provides multiple trail options ranging from beginner to experienced hikers. A visitor shared, "With a ton of trails, lodge, restaurant, and waterfalls it is a nature lovers dream." The Cedar Falls trail is particularly popular during spring when water flow increases.

Water activities: Summer temperatures make water recreation essential. A camper at White Buffalo Resort explained, "Right on the White River and the Buffalo River, just yards away. The best of both rivers." The convergence point creates unique paddling and swimming opportunities not available elsewhere.

    What campers like

Shaded campsites: Many campgrounds feature mature trees providing relief from summer heat. At Choctaw, visitors appreciate that "Every campsite is shaded. Perfectly spaced trees for the hammock lovers." This natural shade becomes particularly valuable during July and August when temperatures consistently exceed 85°F.

Clean facilities: Campground maintenance receives positive mentions across several locations. At Dam Site Campground, one reviewer highlighted "Clean and private bathrooms. Each room had its own lockable bathroom with toilet, sink and shower." This privacy-focused design differs from traditional communal facilities.

Quiet atmosphere: Campers consistently note the peaceful settings. A visitor to Choctaw described it as a "quiet, secluded jewel in Clinton, Arkansas. Tall trees everywhere you look." The reduced ambient noise allows for better wildlife viewing, especially during morning and evening hours.

    What you should know

Seasonal closures: Not all campgrounds operate year-round. Cherokee Park on Greers Ferry Lake typically opens "May 13 to September 12," making advance planning essential for shoulder season visits.

Variable cell service: Connectivity varies significantly between locations. At Macks Pines, a camper reported "No ATT or Verizon service there or in the general area, had to download a map that was essentially a PDF to get around." Signal strength typically improves at higher elevations.

Water level fluctuations: Dam releases affect water levels and fishing conditions. A Dam Quarry visitor explained, "Fishing is best when the generators start drop water levels and early mornings without generation." These scheduled releases can change camping and recreation plans with minimal notice.

    Tips for camping with families

Swimming access: Look for gradual entry points for safer water play. At Holiday Mountain Resort, a visitor mentioned it's "Very kid friendly for swimming or walking or biking around in the campground." The resort maintains shallow wading areas specifically designed for younger children.

Playground availability: Several campgrounds offer dedicated play areas. White Buffalo Resort provides "Pool, playground, small store with essentials, boat rentals, ping pong, & more," creating entertainment options beyond water activities.

Educational opportunities: Schedule visits to nearby learning sites. Dam Quarry is located "next to the hatchery," allowing children to observe fish raising operations. The fish hatchery offers self-guided tours explaining local aquatic conservation efforts.

    Tips from RVers

Site selection: Choose carefully for level parking. At Petit Jean State Park, a camper advised, "Not all sites are level. Check the details closely when making reservations." The park's Area A and B sections specifically "can accommodate large rigs and towables."

Hookup variations: Connections differ between campgrounds and loops. At Dam Quarry, a reviewer noted "Electric and water, but not at every site," requiring RVers to verify specific amenities before booking.

Access limitations: Some campgrounds have navigation challenges. Macks Pines features "an all gravel path so not great for any elderly walkers or those in need of ADA." Larger RVs should research turn radius requirements and site approach angles before arrival.
