Sycamore Canyon Rd Coconino National Forest

Coconino National Forest hosts this free dispersed camping area along Sycamore Canyon Road, roughly five miles outside Clarkdale before the national forest boundary. The road is passable by standard vehicles and RVs, though it gets rougher farther in. Campers report noticeably fewer crowds here than at nearby Sedona sites, with open sightlines toward mesas and plateaus. Fires and pets are allowed, and cell service is available. Bring extra water, as no developed amenities are on site.

Great dispersed camping in coconino national forest

After leaving Sedona, we were looking for less populated dispersed camping and found this spot just outside of Cottonwood. You’ll start on sycamore canyon rd - a sign will say no camping - but continue on the road for 5 miles until you hit the national forest line - then there are many forest roads and dispersed sites. Views are great and there are way less people then Sedona. Easy to access with standard vehicles and RVs of all sizes - but road does get bumpy/ rough the farther in you go. There are pull in sites dispersed throughout.
