The road becomes increasingly rutted closer to the trailhead, with potential mud issues during wet weather. Campers find abundant deadfall wood scattered across the mostly open grassland dotted with juniper and small pinyon pines.
The second and third pull-offs from the highway still pick up some road noise, though the setting remains relatively quiet. Both T-Mobile and Verizon provide cell coverage at the sites. The Red Mountain Trail begins nearby, offering hikers access to the area's namesake formation. Campers can explore additional campgrounds around Parks for extended stays in the region.
