Coconino Forest Road 9125F

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Coconino National Forest manages this free dispersed camping area off Forest Road 9125F, roughly 15 minutes from Flagstaff by car. The forest road itself is soft gravel, and at least one reviewer notes it can behave more like sand in places, making it easy to sink if you're not paying attention. A rear-wheel-drive vehicle has managed the road without issue, though conditions can vary by season.

Campers typically find multiple spots within about two miles of the main road. Fire rings left by previous visitors are present at some sites, and campfires are permitted. Two side roads in the area have been closed due to fire damage, which limits the total number of accessible spots and leaves visible burn scarring on the surrounding trees. Joe M. notes that in midsummer "the colors haven't grown in yet," so expectations about vegetation should be calibrated to the season.

The area draws campers who want a low-cost overnight stop near Flagstaff without committing to a developed campground. Reviewers consistently describe the road as easy to navigate from Highway 89. The Lockett Meadow Road Dispersed -- Coconino NF site sits nearby to the south, and Locket Meadows is another option in the vicinity, though it has been closed at times due to fire activity. Pets are welcome, cell service is available, and there is no fee. This is a functional base for anyone routing through northern Arizona who needs a quiet night under the pines.

Good Place to Stop

This was a very convenient place to stop before Colorado. Very close to Flagstaff and didn’t seem overly crowded.

Didn’t go very far into the road but I found a nice secluded site. Wasn’t particularly gorgeous in the middle of summer as the colors haven’t grown in yet.

Nice place limited pull-overs

Easy to locate off 89 and the roads are well maintained. But there aren't many drive-in spots. And some that are occupied by what looks like longer term stays. Two of the roads are closed due to a forest fire so who knows how many options that are knocked out. The viable fire damage to the trees makes the place seem less inviting. But for a quick overnight close to Flagstaff it works.

Awesome Camping Spot

This place is only about 2 miles from the main road with plenty of spots for camping. The road was primitive but in very good shape. Maybe about a 15 minute drive from Flagstaff. Park next to campsite. Fire ring available 😊😊 very pleased

Tons of space

Easy to navigate. We were going to go to Lockett but it was closed due to recent fires. There were tons of options and we found a nice area. I don’t really think you need 4WD. My husband left our campsite for a gravel bike ride right after we camped because there are routes along this road. Camped with 1 year old and it was quiet.

Amazing views

The road is a soft gravel that you can easily sink in like sand if you’re not careful but my rwd transit did alright! Great place for hiking and at least trying to spot elk
