      Usery Mountain Regional Park

Usery Mountain is an Awesome campground

Outstanding layout, great hosts, spectacular location.  Good hiking and sites nearby whether you are looking for lakes, wild mustangs in the Salt River, a scenic drive to Tortilla Flats or just enjoying the Arizona weather.

Hiking in the park to accommodate all levels.

Campsites are well maintained.  Quiet in the evenings.  Could not ask for more.

      Lost Dutchman State Park Campground

      Great Hiking

Arizona State Park campgrounds are generally developed to maximize profit at the cost of minimizing camper experience. Lost Dutchman offers one bath house to service five or six loops of campsites piled one on top of the other. Because there are so many sites, the campground is managed like a military operation with untold Numbers of rules and regulations to understand and follow. If you fail to follow, a Ranger will be by to repremand and straighten you out. Coyoties are bold here and will enter your camp even if barking dogs attempt to deter. I reserved four nights but left after two. Tortilla Flat SP up in the Superstition Mountains NEAR Canyon Lake or BLM/National Forest dispersed camping is tmore to my liking.

      Lost Dutchman State Park Campground

      Beautiful Views

Beautiful views here, they have both water/electric sites plus dry campsites, all have views with picnic tables and fire ring grill grate. It had been 110 days since rain when we first arrived, so no fires first couple days, but they got rain yesterday 12/10/20 so we can have fires again. This is desert camping, the birds and everything in desert is happy about the rain. Goldfield old mining town is across the street, worth a visit as well for old western town lovers 1883 I believe. Route 88 will carry you through beautiful curvy mountain road over to canyon lake and Tortilla flats, well worth the drive. Lots of hiking from Lost Dutchman State Park. We have seen rabbits, roadrunners, doves, quail and a number other birds, early morning and evening hikes you will see plenty of creatures feeding off the desert. The Saguro cactus are incredible.

      Goldfield Ghost Town Dry Camping

      Fun Ghost town and Camping

We happened upon this cool campground on our way to the state park that doesn’t have check in until 2 even though when I called at 9 they had tons of sites open. The Goldmine sites are clean and level. All have fire pits and most have a picnic table. It was fun to walk right up to the town and walk around. Cowboy Dan who owns and runs the steakhouse is hilarious and his wait staff was helpful and accommodating. They have train rides and you can visit a mine. The coffee shop opens at 9 and they have a great menu for breakfast, lunch and snack time. The restrooms are clean and the camp host was very helpful. We were able to unload our side by side and we traveled up to Tortilla Flats where you can have lunch and then onto Apache Lake and campground. That road does require 4 WD but we did see a Tesla on it so I guess if you like a challenge and don’t have 4WD then anything is possible!!
Great spot and cheaper than the state park for dry camping $30 here and the same price for hook ups here $50.

      WestWorld RV Park

      Westworld surprise

Great location! Nice views of the compound which normally hosts car and horse shows. Electric and water available as hookup. Common dump site available upon entry as well as during your stay. Fabulous shopping restaurants all in close proximity in North Scottsdale. Also convenient to highway system!

      Lost Dutchman State Park Campground

      Stunning View Superstion Mts

Our site was at the top of the loop closest to Mts but furthest from restrooms. It was a 1/3 mile hike to restrooms. Keep that in mind with kids! Our site itself (120) was perfect for one tent and our car. It kind of poked off the main loop away from other neighbors which is why we picked it, very close to the mtb trail and easy access to the trail leading to siphon draw. Very little shade. Actually close to park edge we could see peoples houses to the SE. would camp at this campground again, but for this site would do RV with own restroom. Even in late April early May need EZ up for shade or almost too hot. Fun family stuff at ghost town across the highway.

      Goldfield Ghost Town Dry Camping

Stay right at Goldfield ghost town

The have a few electric and water sites, then more dry sites. Also horse corals, its neat being able to walk right into town, well worth a stop, sites are hard dirt, but adequate, spaced a little more apart on the dry sites, the electric/water sites back up to the town small railroad tracks and are much closer together. This is a great alternative when the lost Dutchman is full. 20 dollars to dry camp, but being able to walk into town was pretty cool. Seen roadrunner, quail, and doves, rabbits. A few coyotes howled at the moon at night, which was pretty cool to, off in the distance. I'd stay here again for the convenience.

    Guide to Tortilla Flat

Several campgrounds near Tortilla Flat, Arizona accommodate recreational riders, though none feature dedicated horse corrals based on available data. Lost Dutchman State Park Campground offers camping options at the base of the Superstition Mountains with spaces suitable for horse trailers in select areas. The park maintains multiple trails accessible to equestrians, including connections to the larger Tonto National Forest trail system. Sites at Lost Dutchman include water and electric hookups, with tent, RV, and cabin accommodations available. The campground experiences occasional crowding due to its proximity to the Phoenix metropolitan area.

Trails throughout the Superstition Mountain region provide varied terrain for riders of all experience levels. The Apache Trail offers spectacular riding routes reminiscent of California's Highway 1 without the ocean but with similar grandeur and magnificence. Most equestrian-friendly campgrounds in the area require riders to bring portable corrals or high-line equipment as permanent equine facilities are limited. Water access points exist along several trails, though riders should verify seasonal availability before planning extended trips. Campers report excellent trail maintenance with washboard washes (dry river beds) offering thrilling riding experiences through stunning desert landscapes. Advance reservations are strongly recommended for horse campers, particularly during peak season when sites with adequate space for trailers fill quickly.
