Forest Service #225 Road Dispersed Camping

Forest Service #225 Road Dispersed Camping, near Jacob Lake, Arizona, is a fantastic spot for those who crave a little adventure in the great outdoors. This area offers a rugged, natural experience with plenty of room to spread out among the ponderosa pines, making it a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle.

Campers have found the sites to be spacious and well-suited for both tents and RVs, though it’s worth noting that the access road can be a bit rough in places. As one visitor mentioned, “The road up the hill was a little rough and wouldn't want to do it in wet weather,” so keep that in mind if you're planning to visit during rainy seasons.

You won’t find any amenities like toilets or drinking water here, but that’s part of the charm. Many campers appreciate the peace and quiet, with one reviewer noting, “It was great to let off the dog off the leash, far enough from the highway and no other campers in sight.” Plus, the area is pet-friendly, so your furry friends can join in on the fun.

For those looking to explore, this location is conveniently situated for adventures along the Arizona-Utah border. Whether you're hiking, biking, or just soaking in the scenery, you’ll find plenty to keep you entertained. Just remember to pack out what you pack in, as there’s no trash service available. Easy on, easy off, big open sites

The site was really easy to get to, right off the road. We ended up taking the first available campsite and it’s really nice big wide open area with an established fire pit. You can hear some road traffic but it’s sporadic. Two other vehicles passed us looking for campsites one was a bigger RV and the other was an SUV. Neither one came back down so they must’ve found a spot.

Overnighter close to Jacob Lake

Was able to find a spot after getting in around noon (midweek). If you follow 225 south of 89A and go up the hill, theres a "road" to the left with a great spot. The road up the hill was a little rough and wouldn't want to do it in wet weather, but spot offered great cell (ATT) and Starlink wasn't an issue.

deep ruts, lots of snow

the forest road is clearly marked ahead of time but the road leading south is so rutted it is treacherous for anything low clearance. it also snows here quite a bit in the winter due to elevation. otherwise very beautiful and firewood is available. there are campsites EVERYWHERE

Forest in Arizona!

Well marked on the highway.

We did not venture far up the road as the second site we saw fit our needs wonderfully. Large open sites amongst the trees. A much enjoyed relief after days in the desert. Nice open wonderfully with plenty of shade. It was great to let off dog off the leash, far enough from the highway and no other campers in sight. We did see a family with a trailer try their luck further up, guessing they found a spot since they didn't come back down. No toilets or any kind of amenities, but peaceful, cool and shady. We did hear some wildlife in the night, possibly wolves (judging from the hotel we heard) so keep your pets inside at night.

Good dispersed camping

This is FS road #225 and from hwy 89a jct on way to Jacob lake about 2-3 miles away. This site is across hwy 89a from another FS Rd is #257 dispersed area Nice large camp sites in trees along the first mile or so. Road is gravel but a bit lumpy in spots. Cell signal is good if you are on flat ridge area toward top. FS road 225 is part of the Great Western motorized trail. Note that FS dispersed rules note you have to be along an open road per the FS MVUM ( https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/kaibab/maps-pubs/?cid=fseprd490027) and 1 mile from a developed recreation site like a FS campground.
