Ponderosa pines line the road into this dispersed camping area within Coconino National Forest, where campers spread out along Forest Road 535 at roughly 7,000 feet elevation. The altitude keeps temperatures noticeably cooler than the Sedona area below, often by 10 degrees or more. Driving in about 1.5 miles puts more distance between a site and passing traffic, which can be fairly regular closer to the entrance.
The road itself warrants attention before committing. Rocky and rough, it can be hard on vehicles even without a trailer, though larger rigs including fifth wheels have made it work. Sites vary: some are level and reasonably open, but broken glass has been reported across multiple sites, which is a real concern for anyone camping with dogs. As Ben W. puts it, "Get far enough back and it's your very own forest."
Cell coverage is a practical draw here. T-Mobile users report solid reception, which is uncommon in this part of northern Arizona. Sightlines open up toward the southeast Flagstaff forest from higher points along the road. Nearby options include Coconino NF Dispersed near Fry Canyon and Forest Road 535 - East for campers wanting to compare sites in the corridor. This spot tends to work best for self-sufficient campers who can tolerate a rough approach and are prepared to scout carefully for a clean, level site.
