Tall ponderosa pines and open clearings define this free dispersed area in Coconino National Forest, sitting just off Lake Mary Road south of Flagstaff. Sites spread far enough apart that campers frequently report having no one else in sight, though the area can fill on weekends. Getting here takes some navigation: when turning right off Lake Mary Road, staying right past the mailbox banks and again at the fork keeps you on the better road. The left fork leads to heavily washboarded sections that multiple reviewers flag as rough on vehicles.
Road conditions shift significantly with weather. The dirt surface holds up reasonably well when dry, and a travel trailer has made it through without issue after light rain, but heavy precipitation brings mud and ruts that may require 4WD to push further back into the forest. The tradeoff for going deeper is more seclusion. Campers with solar setups should note that the tall pine canopy slows charging, though open clearings exist for those who need sun exposure. AT&T and T-Mobile both provide 4G coverage near the road.
Laurie F. notes it is "very quiet, picked up some trash but not bad," which captures the general condition: not pristine, but not heavily impacted either. Campfires are permitted, pets are welcome, and the 14-day dispersed limit applies. One recent review from December 2025 reports a "no camping" sign at the gate, so confirming access before arrival is worth the effort. Campers wanting a developed alternative nearby can check out Canyon Vista Campground, roughly a third of a mile north.
