Sleep soundly nestled up in the alpine

Perfect spot to stretch stiff legs up in Thomson’s pass. There is a great loop trail less than 3 miles if you are just passing through.

Due to covid no host, no services including cell phone service.

This area tends to get “socked” in so be prepared to be one with the clouds. If driving drive slow lots of twists, don’t use your brights it will be harder to see.

That strange noise is the highway

We heard strange noises during the day and it turns out the highway wraps around this campsite. It was so well designed you would never even know it except the strange sounds bouncing off the mountains.

Bathrooms were exceptional and there were hiking trails. Great place to take a raft or kayak. You could not beat the views. Bring an extra blanket since it gets chilly at the higher elevation.

Spots were full and there were only 2 first come first served sites so be sure to go online to reserve one. Totally worth it.

Blueberry Heaven

Situated beautifully up in Thompson Pass is Blueberry Lake and on that lake is Blueberry Lake State Rec Site. With 14 campsites it's small but surrounded in beauty. Site 15 is reserved for the host. This is raw camping just restrooms, firepits, and picnic tables. The whole campground is paved which is wonderful and there are two pavilions along the lake for use. Blueberries abound for picking when in season and Valdez is just a pretty drive down the road. Loved everything about this campground. Wonderfully clean bathrooms and only $25 a night.

Epic Views

I did not get to camp at Blueberry Lakes because we were driving through at mid-day, however it is definitely somewhere I would like to camp one day. This area is as you are coming off of the pass and if it is a clear day you can see mountains for miles and some incredible views of glaciers. There are some great walking trails around the lakes. I'm guessing that there are lots of blueberries here in the summer. We we're coming through in September so it was already past berry season. Do be aware that the restrooms are closed in the off season. The park is open but the facilities are unusable. This is a great place to stop and stretch your legs and take in the views on a clear day. You won't regret it!
