Gated and fully paved, Hyrum State Park Campground sits directly on the shore of Hyrum Reservoir within a residential neighborhood on the edge of town. The layout is compact, with roughly eight or nine sites featuring water and electric hookups in the middle rows, and around a dozen dry camping spots positioned closer to the water. Sites along the shoreline get open sightlines across the lake but have little shade, while the hookup sites tend to have more tree cover. The park gates close at 10 p.m. and reopen at 6 a.m., which matters for campers planning late arrivals or evening outings into nearby Logan.
Water access is the main draw here. The campground doubles as a day-use area with a boat ramp and a small beach, making it a consistent stop for anglers and boaters. On busy weekends, particularly around summer holidays, day visitors bring noticeable activity to the ramp. One practical note: when temperatures rise, the surrounding agricultural land can produce a strong smell from nearby farms. A road along the north side of the campground also generates some traffic noise. Facilities are well-maintained, with two bathhouses, handicap-accessible restrooms, and, as Nathan D. notes, "plenty of hot water."
RVs up to 80 feet can access full hookup sites with electric, water, and sewer connections. Logan, roughly 15 minutes away, has full resupply options including a Costco, and its extensive bike trail network is accessible for day trips. Campers wanting a more dispersed experience in the surrounding hills might consider Blacksmith Fork Canyon Road Dispersed (Cache NF) as an alternative, or browse campgrounds around Hyrum for additional options in the valley.
Description
Years before the Mormon settlers arrived in the valley, General William H. Ashley stopped near what is now the edge of Hyrum Reservoir and cached $150,000 worth of furs, mostly beaver, in the winter of 1825-26. They were stored in a cave dug in a clay bank until they were retrieved the following summer. This history resulted in the French-Canadian name of Cache Valley and Cache County. Tucked into beautiful Cache Valley,
