Reservations are available year-round at Tugaloo State Park Campground in Lavonia, Georgia, where more than 100 sites spread across multiple loops along the shoreline of Lake Hartwell. Nightly rates run $27 to $230 depending on site type, and the campground provides full hookups including electric, water, and sewer, plus a dump station and well-maintained bathhouses throughout the property.
Site selection matters here. The first loop, covering sites 1 through 26, sits closer together as a smaller cluster within the larger campground, and over half those sites have direct lake views or sit right on the water. The outer loops, particularly sites 73 through 105, use a sideways pull-through layout that makes sites long and narrow, placing the picnic table and fire pit at the far end from the RV pad. Some interior sites are close to neighbors, especially on weekends when waterfront lots fill quickly. "Really enjoyed the lakefront campsites," notes Liz H., who launched kayaks directly from her site.
The park has multiple boat launches with easy access to Lake Hartwell, a beach with a concession stand, two playgrounds, tennis and pickleball courts, and the Sassafras Loop trail, which follows the shoreline for much of its length. Fishing from campsites is possible, though results vary. Cell reception on Verizon has been reported as solid. Walk-in sites have water and fire pits but no electric hookups.
One recurring navigation note from campers: GPS directions sometimes route drivers down a washed-out county road. Going straight and making three right turns avoids that problem. Weekday stays are noticeably less crowded than weekends. Bathhouse availability can vary by season, so confirming which facilities are open at check-in is worth the extra step. The campground sits within Tugaloo State Park, and the surrounding area gives access to Toccoa Falls, Tallulah Gorge, and Helen. Paddlers and anglers looking to compare options nearby can also consider Lake Hartwell State Recreation Area across the state line.
