Description
BLM land along Gebo Road in the high desert of central Wyoming's Bighorn Basin puts campers within walking distance of one of the region's more evocative remnants of the coal-mining era — crumbling brick buildings and a cemetery marking what was once the town of Gebo. A designated pullout near the base of the hill provides the most practical overnight spot, with additional parking options along the approach; the road in from the highway is generally passable but turns slick when wet, so high clearance is an advantage. The ghost town structures sit on adjacent private property, so the visit is best enjoyed on foot from the BLM side.
