Within BLM Land managed by the Lander Field Office, Cottonwood Campground provides dispersed camping along a mountain creek. The campground stretches along a straight dirt road, with sites spread far enough apart that some feel isolated from other campers. Site 17 sits nearly a 10-minute walk from the registration station.
Access requires a 20-minute drive on gravel road that becomes washboarded in sections. The road narrows considerably and can shake loose items in RVs. Once campers reach the treeline, aspen groves create shade over many sites. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring. Vault toilets appear throughout the campground and reviews note their cleanliness.
The creek runs through several campsites, with small bridges providing crossings where needed. Scott P. notes "You could even walk down to the lake." The water stays shallow enough for easy crossing in most areas. No cell service reaches the campground. Pets are not permitted. Registration operates on a first-come, first-serve basis at $6 per night through self-pay stations.

Description
The Cottonwood Campground is a developed camping site an semi-alpine setting. The site features 18 campsites, fire rings, water, picnic tables, Accessible vault toilets, garbage collection, and can accommodate large recreational vehicles. Season of use runs June 1 to October 31. The Green Mountain Loop Road above the campground is open June 15 - December 1.
