Very nice little campground

Unknown except for locals who picnic here. Campground is almost empty. No site #s. State park but more like a city campground. Grass and clover to camp on. Tongue river surrounds camp. $20.34 for non residents!

Wonderful little park to stay.

What a wonderful little park to spend the night in. We found it by mistake and glad we did. The grounds are well kept and it was very quiet as well, well, with the exception of the occasional train going by but hey if that's a deal breaker, go else where.

There are a couple of pull-thru sites for large rigs and about 10 back-in sites for smaller ones. They are not numbered and no reservations, first-come first-served. There are different prices for resident and non-resident but are very reasonable either way.

There are "no" utilities, so come prepared. They do have water spigots in certain areas of the park but after Sept. 30th they shut them off, so... there is water to be had at the "Public Works" building across the river just as you come in, if you need. It is a spigot on the side of the building. We used our 30 gal. bladder to gain better access instead of pulling the 40' rig close by. They do have "vault toilets" within the park and are very clean.

Convenient location by the river

This is basically a city park, but away from the highway. Vault toilets, and the one near my campsite was reasonably clean. Lots of available sites, even on a Friday in mid-July. Fee is $20.34 for non-residents of Wyoming. There is a small playground for the kiddos and lots of grass for them to run around.

Maiden Voyage

This was close to home, because I'm preparing a travel van and it was perfect for a quick get away. It was a Sunday night stay, so it was super quite. Camp host was friendly, toilets clean and even got a visit from a Great Horned Owl!

Convenient but bathrooms closed!

We stopped here just for an overnight and didn't even get to see the place in the dark. Even so, it was conveniently located just outside of Ranchester and we got a spot right along the creek which even in the dark sparkled in the moonlight. Worst thing was that the bathrooms were closed though! Supposedly closed for season due to vandalism. Be forewarned if you dont have a potty in your camper!

Needs Some Work

We stayed here for one night on a drive through because it was close to the interstate. Sure glad we weren’t staying longer. It’s basically a town park for the locals where they walk their dogs and kids play in the river. The toilets were filthy and disgusting. The park area grounds weren’t well maintained. But it provided a flat shady spot to park for a night. Skip this one unless you just don’t have a choice.

Tranquil spot by the river

Judy, the previous reviewer shared a lot of great details, so I won't repeat them.

What I can add is that Wy residents cost is $15 and non resident is $18 a night. Self pay station. Sites are not numbered. They are first come only. Sites along the river are not shaded. The others have plenty. There is a train track nearby. We only heard 2 though. One late afternoon and one before 10 pm. It was not loud enough to be annoying. Lastly, come prepared. When we were there on a Wed and Thurs., no restaurant open. There is no grocery. There is a gas station that has a few basics.

There is a great hike 20 min away outside of Dayton. Tongue River Canyon. Stunning.

Beautiful setting along Tongue River

This is a Wyoming state historical site commemorating the 1865 Battle of Tongue River between General Connor and Chief Black Bear of the Arapaho Village. There is both a campground and a day use area.

The sites are shaded by willows. Our site was near a ranch where we could see their horses in the pasture. The cost for $16 for a nice site, picnic table, fire ring, flush toilets, potable water, garbage cans. The day use area providing children’s playground equipment. It is a short walk to Ranchester across a pedestrian suspension bridge.
