Swauk Campground sits in a forested stretch of Wenatchee National Forest along Highway 97, roughly midway between Cle Elum and the Wenatchee Valley. The highway is close enough that semi-truck noise, including Jake brake use on the grade, carries into camp until around 10 PM. Sites are tight. The road through the campground is narrow, and rigs over 30 feet will have difficulty maneuvering. No cell service is available. One recurring scheduling note: the weekend after the Fourth of July has reportedly been claimed by the same large family reunion for over 60 years, drawing 150 or more people to this small campground. Swauk works best as an overnight stop for smaller rigs passing through, not as a base camp destination, and campers who prefer camping near Wenatchee National Forest with more elbow room may want to consider nearby dispersed options like Iron Creek Road to the west.

A small forested campground challenged by narrow access roads unsuitable for RVs over 30 feet and persistent highway noise from semis. Many mentioned the beautiful forest setting, though several noted concerns about spacing and accessibility issues.

Avoid the weekend after July 4

I stayed there for one night on a Thursday. For such a small campground it was really full. It turns out that for the last 62 years, this campground is taken over by a large family reunion the weekend after the Fourth of July. They easily had 75 people there already and were expecting at least that many more. If you avoid that weekend, then it’s a nice campground except that it is right next to the highway. As a layover it’s fine. I wouldn’t make it a destination place though.

Not recommended for RV’s - slides & 25’+

We were able to park our 33’ RV with F250 long bed in site 15 but not without skill and ingenuity. The front hitch was as low as it could go and still not level. Highway 97 noise from semi trucks using the Jake brake to slow down finally stopped around 10PM. No pay envelopes available. The rangers said they were out so it was free. No cellular or dump station.

NOT A PARK FOR BIG RIGS

this is a very small park with a very narrow road. more suited for rents or RV's under 30'. beautifully forested area tho' and wish could have gotten our 41' 5th wheel in
