Sutter Creek Rest Area Hwy 20

Highway 20 travelers find Sutter Creek Rest Area positioned along the Skagit River, offering overnight parking despite official "No Camping" signage that requests eight-hour stays. The site provides picnic tables, trash service, and ample space for big rigs on paved surfaces. Verizon cell service reaches the area reliably.

Morning hours bring moderate traffic as day users access the river and facilities. Road noise diminishes after dark, though campers should expect some activity given the rest area's primary function. The location works as a staging point for Howard Miller Steelhead County Park and serves visitors heading to North Cascades National Park. Free camping comes with the understanding that enforcement of posted time limits remains possible.

Nice park, but “no camping” signs

This is a nice rest area by the river with picnic tables and trash bins and tons of room to park. Only thing is, there is a large sign requesting that you limit your stay to 8 hours, and other signs saying “No Camping”. I didn’t realize that though as I got there after dark, so I stayed overnight with no issues. Just a heads up for those who might not want to risk a knock!

Other than that, great Verizon cell service, close to the entrance of Cascades NP, a little busy in the morning, not a ton of road traffic at night, it was a good for 1 night!

Good day Tee, while "no camping signs" can be confusing, in this instance, parking overnight is allowed. The idea of "no camping" simply means you can not set up camp (as in - set up a tent, chairs, make a camp). But sleeping in your vehicle is perfectly okay. Glad you had a good night sleep!
