Riverside State Park Equestrian Campground — Riverside State Park

Equestrian riders heading into Riverside State Park have a dedicated campground that gives direct access to miles of trails running alongside the Spokane River. The campground is reserved for horse campers, so sites stay oriented around that use rather than general recreation. Sites include picnic tables, electric hookups, and access to drinking water and showers, with a dump station on-site for self-contained rigs. RVs up to 80 feet can be accommodated.

A quarter mile up the road from the sites, riders will find an arena, a round pen, and a trail training obstacle course. For large groups or overflow situations, adjacent areas suitable for high-lining horses may be available with permission from park staff. The trail network connects hikers and cyclists as well, and the Spokane River corridor provides fishing access. "Tons of riding trails, and arena, round pen and obstacle course," notes Dawn in her review.

Reservations are available and worth securing in advance given the specialized nature of the campground. Pets are allowed. Nightly rates run $31 to $46 depending on the site and season. Campers exploring campgrounds around Spokane will find this one sits roughly 20 minutes from the city center, making it practical for those who want a multi-night base without traveling far. The Bowl and Pitcher Campground sits less than a mile north for non-equestrian campers looking for a different setup within the same park.

Equestrian camping at it's best

This area accesses many miles of hiking/biking/horseback trails along the scenic Spokane River, but the campground itself is reserved for equestrians. There is also an arena, round pen, and trail training course a quarter mile up the road from the campground.  For large groups and/or overflow, permission may be granted for camping in adjacent areas suitable for high lining horses.  Even though this area is only 20 minutes from our home, we frequently camp there just for fun!
