Pettigrew WMA

Pettigrew Wildlife Management Area, managed by Virginia DWR, draws tent campers looking for a low-traffic overnight spot with hiking access. Crowds are minimal. Before arriving, campers must obtain both a daily ($4) or annual access permit through the Virginia DWR website and a separate WMA camping license, which is free. The hike-in, walk-in access keeps the site quiet, and campfires and pets are permitted. Those exploring camping near Rappahannock Academy will find few sites with this level of solitude at this price point.

Pettigrew WMA - great dispersed camping

Good spot to get away and pitch a tent. Never anyone else there too! Make sure to get a daily ($4) or annual (~$22 I forget) Access Permit on Virginia DWR, as well as special WMA camping license (free)
