Luray RV Resort on Shenandoah River

Tubing the Shenandoah River is one of the main draws at Luray RV Resort, where the campground runs directly along the water and a dedicated launch area gives guests access to a roughly 30-minute float from one end of the property to the other. Bring your own tubes. The resort also has developed walking and golf cart trails along the riverbank, a water park, fishing ponds, a playground, and a dog park with a designated off-leash area, making it a busy, amenity-heavy property rather than a back-to-basics stop.

RV sites include full hookups with electric, water, and sewer, and reviewers note the sites are spacious enough for larger rigs. The tradeoff is limited privacy, as sites sit close together, and those on the property's edges can be heavily lit at night. No shaded RV sites are available, and none have direct river views. The bathhouse earns consistent praise: Melissa W. describes it as having "huge showers and hot water." Cell signal has been adequate for hotspotting, according to multiple reviewers.

The resort sits near Outlanders River Camp and within a short drive of Luray Caverns. Shenandoah National Park is accessible from this base, though reaching the more popular trailheads takes some time once inside the park. Campers exploring the region can browse places to camp around Luray to compare nearby options. Firewood must be purchased on-site, and the camp store closes early, so call ahead to arrange delivery before you lose cell coverage on the property.

Many campers appreciated the clean facilities, river access for tubing, and family amenities including playground areas. Sites accommodate larger rigs well but spacing varies. Common feedback included excellent bathrooms and proximity to Shenandoah National Park.

Difficult river access for seniors

Nice, clean, parking lot type campground. Great pool with lots of built in splash features for kids and a big slide. No real view from site 665 ~ just the top of some mountains. No river view at all. There is a golf cart trail to the river access with parking, but then there are big steps with no hand rail. Lucky a nice man let me hold onto him walking back up. My husband was carrying the gear and couldn’t help me. It seems everyone brought a golf cart. They had rentals, but too expensive. Again ~ great for young families.

Amazing location

So clean and well maintained! We went in April and the waterpark was not opened yet. Most campgrounds we looked to stay at mentioned not being opened until mentorship day but here did not have it listed anywhere. We love our site. Golf carts were so fun to ride around through their back trails along the water. Tubing in the river was so peaceful and relaxing.

Amazing location!

Great proximity to Shenandoah National Park while still being close enough to a Walmart and fuel. Easy to access sites, great for larger rigs! If you have kids definitely get closer to the play ground, you won’t regret it! Bathhouse was clean, very well manicured campground, amazing views of the mountains and riverfront access for tubing. We will definitely be back!!

Happy with our stay

The campground was virtually empty which made our stay so much more peaceful and enjoyable. The sites are quite close together with virtually no privacy so if they were busy and full, I'm not sure I'd be leaving the same review. We stayed in early April and were surprised to find it so slow (although it was in the middle of the week). Location is fairly convenient to Shenandoah but it still takes a while to get to some of the more popular hikes once inside the park. We also went to the Luray Caverns which are close which were neat. It was nice that the campground runs along the river and they even have a spot for you to get in and swim. The fact that they have developed hiking/walking/running paths, a "dog park", and a spot to go swimming were pretty outstanding. Bathrooms were amazing. Very clean. Huge showers and hot water. There's also a dish sink on the back side of the shower house.

They state that you're only allowed to burn the firewood that you purchase from them which is tricky because their office closed very early everyday so we would have to find a place that actually got cell reception to call and ask them to leave out wood for us. It worked, just annoying.

FYI. The bugs here were crazy, even for it being fairly cool out. The flies were almost overwhelming.

Spacious and clean campground

We recently stayed for a long weekend at the Outlanders campground after we received a referral from a friend and could not have been more happy with our stay.  The RV sites at this campground are very spaced out, you have a lot of room to each side of your RV.  The park and facilities were very clean.  They have a playground for the kids, fishing ponds, cabins, pet friendly with a dog park and they are located right along the Shenandoah river.  You can go tubing on the river but need to provide your own tubes.  The ride down the river from one end of the park to the other is around 30 minutes.  Also for all of the people attached to the internet like us we were able to have plenty of cell signal to hotspot and get internet.
