We stayed here in April so many of the amenities weren't open yet (pool, arcade, rec room). Like others mentioned, the campground is on the side of a mountain so it is very steep in some sections. (One entire loop says 4 wheel drive recommend, so read carefully before booking!) It's a pretty large campground. Most sites are well spaced but a lot are right beside each other, too. Kids loved the playground and the swings (a few different swing sets on the property). The camp store and entrance to the caverns is a gorgeous, old stone building! A staff member told me the campground was built in the 1800s. We loved the cavern tour. We went on a Fri at 2:00 with about 14 other people. The tour guide was pretty knowledgeable and great with the kids. This are is mostly rolling green hills with farm houses & cows everywhere. We visited the VA Civil War Museum & homestead, Luray Caverns (which was super busy) and Cooter's Dukes of Hazzard store/museum/cafe. In New Market we enjoyed Pack's soft serve ice cream stand, Southern Kitchen diner and the old General Store. We loved the Storybook Trail (no signs to find it…use gps!) that was closeby. It had a beautiful overlook of the valley. We found lots to do in this area and really enjoyed the campground (which was quiet, peaceful & dark at night!).

Really beautiful spot. It's one small loop with around 30 sites, as well as 3 luxury yurts. Very level w/ nice gravel, fire pits & picnic tables. A nice big creek runs behind most of the campsites. There's a playground for the kids and a little fenced in dog park, too (it even has a nice dog wash station!). Beautifully landscaped with lots of flowers, bird feeders and little white lights at night. The bathhouse was clean and there's a nice picnic shelter. The camp store has basic necessities (even local, fresh eggs). Blue Ridge Parkway isn't far. We recommend the hike to Crabtree Falls! Only con is that the sites are very close together.

We really, really enjoyed our stay here (end of Sept. 2020). It is a small campground on a really nice point/peninsula. The water is very clear! You can see probably about 5-6 feet down. We were on site #75, right on the shore line. Several sites are waterfront. (The section we were in did have a sign that said larger RVs might have difficulty.) There is a small playground, several sandy beach areas and a boat launch. Numerous picnic tables throughout the park. It was really quiet while we were there but we got the impression that during peak summertime, it's probably pretty crowded. The park has day use access. It's in the middle of "nowhere". An old general store is 5 min away (sells firewood, basic food items, some camping/rv supplies and some souvenirs like tshirts & hats). It has a deli/grill inside. None of the staff were wearing masks (just FYI). The closest gas station is 11 min away in the opposite direction of the general store. We loved it and can't wait to go back! (There was a huge rain storm just before we arrived so that's why there is some standing water in a few pics… particularly around the playground.)

Love this little campground. Emerald Isle is a favorite vacation spot for my family and when we aren't renting a house, this campground is a great alternative. It's clean, close to the beach, has a little pool and they do fun family activities, too (like outdoor movies and Christmas in July!). I really like how small it is…feels more like a campground community than a huge resort. They have a little playground and some shade trees. There are some permanent trailers, as well.

Fabulous location! Getting there is half the fun. Take a 2 hour ferry ride to the island. Drive through the quaint town to get to the secluded campground. Huge dunes between campground and beach. Sites are well spaced. Hardly any shade so take your own, if you can. Just across the street, on the other side of the island, is the bay. Water is less than knee deep for as far as you can see….a fun place to play! No hookups and only cold water, primitive style showers.

We enjoy this campground because it is so close to home. It's pretty basic. The bath houses need updating. Most sites are well spaced and there are plenty of shade trees. Sites on the water are really great but you can usually find a path to the water even if you aren't waterfront. (Beaches have been closed during COVID however, you can still access water from campsites.) Some little hiking trails are between loops.

We have camped at Davidson River several times. It is in such a prime location if you love hiking to beautiful waterfalls. I can't even count the number of waterfalls that are within a 30min drive. Some are an easy walk right from the road and some are a good hike to get to. The campground is always clean and the sites are well spaced out. There is a nice trail that runs along the river and a swimming hole (the water is always freezing!) with a little rock cliff to jump off of. The river is rocky and shallow so it's fun to play in. Bring a river tube or rent one nearby to enjoy a lazy float downstream! The campground has lots of trees to provide privacy and shade.
