Good campground

Nice place, no wifi, cell phone service is limited. Most sites have no hookups. Has bear lockers.

Absolutely gorgeous !

This is our favorite campsite and park that we’ve been to in the state of Virginia! We have so many more to explore but Douthat state park is huge the lake is so much fun, and the trails go for miles! We just started camping and hiking and can’t wait to explore more of the country!!

Very peaceful scenic campground.

The campground is butted up against Sherwood lake and a small mtn ridge range that divides West Virginia and Virginia.  Even though I didn't get to go fishing it looked like a very nice lake to fish in.  The campsites themselves are very nice and the majority is right on the lake.  There is very…

Near Wineries and Breweries

This was an unusual campground. It was divided into areas for RV with full hookup, RV or tent without electric. The view from almost every site was spectacular! There is a bath house but I never used it. Across the street was Blue Toad Hard Cider tasting room and next door is Devil's Backbone…

Close to fun

Nice campground, really close to historic Charlottesville.  Some fun breweries and restaurants are right around the corner.

Our site was great- up a hill and surrounded by trees. Very quiet.

I'd be less happy if I ended up in one of the lower level sites. No trees, packed in, and near a…

Easy and clean camping

It was conveniently located near great hiking spots. Staff was very friendly and we enjoyed the ease of setting up our tent on the gravel platform by the pond. Those froggos have a lot to say though. Ahh the beauty of living in nature.

James River State Park

James river very good river to kayak. Lots of trails and wide open fields to look at stars.  I would highly recommend this state park.

Would go back any time

We went here for our first camping trip after buying our first camper. My daughter said she started having fun as soon as the car door opened. The spots along the creek were so nice but they are not full hookup. The full hookups were in the middle but got really muddy when it rained because…

Lovely Place

This is a wonderfully priced spot nestled in the middle of some great outdoor adventure opportunities.

We stayed in the mountain view cabin lower level with our two dogs. The upstairs neighbors were probably as quiet as they could be but you could still hear them walking around and using the…

Laid back camping

Such a cool little slice of camping fun. Came out for a Saturday night, set up camp, enjoyed some good beer and saw some live music!

Decided to stay another night. Super cool place.

Amazing late night stop

We ended up getting in late but the place was very quite and clean. Perfect for our first night in the woods. Nearest cell signal is about ten miles up at the House Mountain Overlook. Rangers on site were super sweet.

  • Creek runs through the campground. Spots on the water fill up fast.

Fun rustic campground

Stokesville campground is a little rough around the edges but offers access to lots of miles of trails in George Washington National Forest. There is an awesome swimming hole on the North River, Four miles of flow mountain bike trails inside the campground with endless miles of trails just…

Great place to stay!

Great campsite $15/night. About 1/3 reservation and 2/3 first come first served. It is a site that attracts hikers especially, as it is adjacent to the Appalachian trail. Bear boxes are at each site too, which is very convenient especially at a walk in site!

If you can, get site #20. It is the…
