Hiking and creek-side camping draw visitors to Ophir Canyon Campground, a BLM-managed site tucked into a canyon south of Stockton, Utah, where two waterways run through the grounds and temperatures run cooler than the surrounding valley. Sites are first-come, first-served. Campers report arriving as late as 7:30 p.m. and still finding open spots, though the campground does fill up, particularly on weekends.
Each site includes a fire pit and picnic table, and a pit toilet is on-site. Sites are spaced a reasonable distance apart, and several sit close to the creek. Cattle roam the area freely; at least one camper woke to find a dozen cows nearby, so light sleepers and pet owners should plan accordingly. Kati C. notes the bathrooms "started out clean and got worse as more people used them," which is worth keeping in mind during busier stretches.
The fee structure has been inconsistent across recent visits. Some reviews cite $15 per night, while others note the pay station appears welded shut, suggesting the site may currently be free. Confirming current fee status with the BLM Salt Lake Field Office before arrival is a reasonable step. ATVs and dirt bikes use the surrounding roads, so expect some motor noise during the day. Dogs are permitted on leash.
Campers wanting a developed alternative in the area can look at Settlement Canyon to the northwest or Middle Canyon Campground to the north.
