Gorgeous Canyon Site

Site #1 is an absolute gem 💎

Pros ✨F*cking beautiful surroundings ✨ Tiny adorable lizards everywhere Right on the water to help keep cool Beautiful colorful birds are abundant Very affordable Site #1 specifically -super private -great shade until noon

Cons RIDICULOUS BUGS AFTER DARK -saw a camel spider 💀 -lots of gnats -got a huge spider bite right away -not too many mosquitos Very hot during mid-day (obviously) No direct water access Sites 2 and 3 seem really hot and sunny 🥵🔥

Overall, I think it's a great campground in the area of arches and canyon lands and it's drop dead gorgeous. I would avoid all the camp grounds on this river if you can't handle bugs or don't like the cute little lizards vibing around you.

Cheap, one hour from Zion

All the campgrounds near Zion get really full, so if you don’t mind driving a bit and going a day without showers, this is a good campground. You have to drive on a dirt road for a while to get there. But hey, it’s only $5!!

Beautiful change of scenery

Awesome scenery and clean campground. The drive in was beautiful and the stream along the road made for an excellent bath! Pretty good hiking as well. Oak Grove added some variety to our southern Utah trip.

Great CG in the trees

Seems very nice, only $5 and cg is in a old growth pine grove. Road is graded gravel but is steep and narrow access and the 8 sites are small. Travel trailers and large RVs are not recommended. No water or trash. One vault toilet. Cell signal weak 1-2 bars.

Easy access, free, campfire rings, dispersed.

Stopped here on our way back home through Utah. We got in on a Saturday night in December and found multiple sites available. Both sites we looked at had enough space for multiple vehicles and tents, or an RV/trailer. There was some traffic that passed by throughout the night and morning but not a significant amount. The road was well maintained and easily passable in dry conditions with a low-clearance 2WD vehicle. Our site was mostly trash/glass free. The views of surrounding hills and mountains were nice, although the noise from the freeway was still audible. Verizon cell service was good and internet was useable. Would definitely stay here again if looking for a quick spot to overnight for free.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is Oak Grove Campground located in Utah?

Oak Grove Campground is located in southern Utah within Dixie National Forest. It's situated in a scenic area near Pine Valley, making it a less crowded alternative to nearby Zion National Park campgrounds. The campground is accessed via a steep, narrow graded gravel road, requiring some off-pavement driving to reach. The beautiful setting features old-growth pine trees and is positioned along a stream, offering a peaceful forest environment away from the more heavily visited areas.

What do visitor reviews say about Oak Grove Campground?

Campers consistently praise Oak Grove Campground for its beautiful surroundings, affordability, and peaceful atmosphere. Site #1 is highlighted as particularly private with good shade until noon. The old-growth pine setting, nearby stream (which some use for bathing), and abundant wildlife including colorful birds and small lizards enhance the experience. Visitors appreciate the clean facilities and scenic beauty, including excellent hiking opportunities. Drawbacks include significant bug activity after dark, the challenging access road, and limited amenities. Many find it a worthwhile alternative to crowded Zion-area campgrounds despite the $5 fee and basic facilities.

What amenities and facilities are available at Oak Grove Campground?

Oak Grove Campground offers basic facilities at an affordable $5 fee. The campground features 8 small sites nestled among old-growth pines, with one vault toilet available. There's no water service or trash collection, so campers need to pack in their own water and pack out all garbage. Sites can accommodate multiple tents or smaller vehicles, but the steep, narrow access road makes it unsuitable for large RVs or travel trailers. Cell signal is weak with only 1-2 bars reported.

Are there photos or a map of Oak Grove Campground to view before visiting?

The campground consists of 8 sites with Site #1 noted as particularly private and shaded. Visitors should be aware of the steep, narrow gravel access road that can be challenging for larger vehicles. For current photos and maps, check with the Dixie National Forest website or visitor center before your trip to get the most up-to-date visual information about the campground layout and surroundings.
